Last photo shoot I did in 2015 - it was a lookbook for ShopTunnelVision - one of my favorite online stores!!
Shot by the incredible MarinaFini
These are some of my favorite solo shots from the shoot with IG: @MarinaFini
I love the focus on retro fashion as well as the aesthetic of the background that matches the model’s outfits. This is a fun mix of a fashion editorial vibe ans something really whimsical where you can tell the model is having fun. I love the variety of colored lights and how they reflect on the model’s hair, skin, and clothes. There is a good variety of poses, ones where the model is more active and visibly moving and ones where they are more still and poised. The backgrounds/backdrops are also taken full advantage of in how the model interacts with in different spaces: laying on the couch, holding the heart shapes, dancing in front of a busy pattern, and sitting and reclining in the neon chair.

When editing the portraits I made of my father last weekend, I unconsciously selected the one that has the most in common with this self-portriat he did in the Army nearly 50 years ago, which has always been my favorite photograph of him. A happy accident.
This is really amazing
Portraits that mimic older portraits are always very interesting to see because there’s something dynamic about seeing the things that have changed and what has stayed the same. The fact that the artist recreated an portrait subconsciously adds another level of importance to this work, and shows how influence of works seen affects creative work of artists in a positive manner.

O·M·O by Felipe Bodoya
USA. 1985 Ferdinando Scianna
The focus on lights and reflection in these cityscapes is executed wonderfully and the similarity of a vertical composition along with the subject matter helps tie these images together. I particularly love the motion blur in the skyscraper image in the top right, the contrast between the purple sky and the minty blue lights match well with the black tones of the buildings
🎥 | Violet Chachki by Miss Missy Photography
These portraits of former America’s Next Drag Superstar, Violet Chachki, are all centered around her vintage pin up drag aesthetic. The use of matching the sets with pin up poses and soft pastels and period accurate props such as the camera and pointy bra give this photo shoot a very authentic feeling. The lighting also isn’t overly dramatic letting the viewer focus on the poses and background of the shots

Roses (2016)
I’m selling 8x10 prints of this series for a limited time over at brookedidonato.bigcartel.com so grab some melty decor while it’s still hot ❤
I love this portraiture, i think the wax roses melting on the various models is so successful, the contrast between the colors of the wax and different skin tones is beautiful. I love the slow movement the melting wax brings, it makes these photos seem very tranquil. Of course the red wax appears like blood, so i think that’s also interesting because it brings another level of sadness and pain that can also be interpreted from these images. I also see a parallel to michelangelo’s painting of god and adam with the pose of the last picture, as well as almost appearing as a yin-yang symbol.Â

I love the focus on movement and dance in this shot as well as the creative inclusion of sequins to the photo. they accentuate the amazing pose of the dancer and bring in an interesting pop of color that matches the warm greens in the shot.

Flores Raras, Vinicius Terranova
In “Flores Raras,” Brazilian photographer Vinicius Terranova photographs Lara and Mara, black twins with albanism, and their older sister Sheila, who has a significantly darker skin tone. The stark contrast between the siblings showcases the beauty and diversity of black skin and blackness as an identity and race.

I love the focus on blackness as both an identity and a race as well as portraying blackness as positive and beautiful when there is a serious lack of representation in media and mainstream art. The soft colors the girls are wearing really cement the innocence and softness the pictures provide as well as the cheerfulness and joy associated with childhood. The closeness between the sisters is evident in how comfortable they are and that translates into really beautiful shots. i also love the photo that focuses on one of the sisters shaking her hair both as it shows great movement and ties into the theme of blackness.

UNDERWATER - 2014
by Miriam Marlene WalnderÂ
I love the notion of throwing seemingly random objects in a swimming pool,. I think the colors of the objects go well together as they seem to be mostly softer pastel colors; a blue that mimics the pool water and soft pink, and silvery greys. I do like the pops of color that the flowers and fruit provide.
These shots come off as very peaceful an finalizing, the person dropping these objects don’t need them anymore. This would represent multiple things, and i like the focus on moving on.

I love the movement captured in this photo, how you ca be the models hair but still see the outline of their face. The white bright lighting from the corner gives the piece an eerie feeling that I think matches the frantic movement of the piece. I personally get a sense of anxiety seeing this photo.
