How is she acting so calmly..? Kuzuryuu wondered. Without a doubt she must remember who she was quarreling with before, and how that person could easily have been the one who bludgeoned her to death. She knew nothing. She knew nothing about his situation with Peko, nor did she ever see her come up from behind. The explanation will be a lot to take in for the poor girl.
Muddled by her response, he escaped his eyes from meeting hers. He couldnât bare to torture himself making eye contact with somebody he caused the demise of. Thereâs nothing he could really do but discuss it.Â
"You seem so calm about everything thatâs going on.. Thatâs something I could never do.." he muttered. "Really, itâs fortunate that you ended up being alive after all.. You should cherish that, you know." he continued.
Rambling once again, he attempts to stall her from even asking about what happened. It must be done at one point, this chattering is all useless.
They never got along too well, but it was almost vital for her to speak with him. "..I'm only acting this way because I feel that's the appropriate approach to this whole thing. What good would yelling do at this point?" She couldn't change the past, but that didn't mean she was content with this turn of events. Mahiru didn't want to jump to conclusions considering how much time had passed between their quarrel at the beach house and their current encounter. Naturally, she didn't know the exact amount, but she could only assume it had been quite a while--Days, weeks, maybe even months?
Similarly, she did not want to beat around the bush. What would be the purpose of that? She was never one to do that before and she wouldn't begin now. Mahiru had been informed of scarce details here and there, but it was different than talking to Kuzuryuu himself.
She paused for a few moments before speaking again: "Of course I know that. I'm appreciative of being granted another chance at all, but..--Why did it have to turn out this way?" Looking him in the eyes, she added, "You were the one threatening to kill someone from the very beginning, isn't that right? ..Then again, this whole ordeal has probably taken more of a toll on you than me. S-So, I want to hear you out, first off."
