Every Step You Take || Bom and ??? || Open
It was the time of night where most of the light had gone from the skies and the island. Â Bom had been wandering over the island, hunting out new haunting grounds since early afternoon. Â Time had slipped through her fingers, and suddenly it was late, and the woman was far from home. Â She wasnât precisely sure where she was, but it was someplace on the far edge of one of the zones. Â The darkness was closing in around her, pressing against her irises like a thick woolen blanket. Â Her ears were similarly muted, the only sound being that of her shoes smacking against the pavement. Â
Bom was not one to be afraid of the dark. Â She was confident in her knowledge of the city, and in her safety with the used of her powers. Â Tonight, however, she had wandered far from her usually places, someplace she had not seen before. Â She seemed to be surrounded by a gloom so deep, so impenetrable, that Bom felt like the only person on the planet. Â The redhead reached an intersection, and slowed to a near stop, glancing one way and then the other. Â Down one direction, and perhaps her eyes were tricking her in the murkiness of late night, there was movement, as if someone in the distance. Â
Unsure of the source, and not willing to find out, the young woman yanked her leather jacket tighter around her frame and went the opposite direction. Â She picked up the pace as she went, her feet beating an uneven tattoo against the sidewalk that echoed all around her. Â Minutes passed, and she began to notice something odd. Â Her footfalls were louder and more offbeat than before. Â Bom ground to a halt and, as she did so, the sound of steps halted as well. Â Carefully she glanced around again. Â
Somewhere behind her, she seemed to see a figure once again, standing against an unlit lamppost some fifty feet behind her.  Her heart leapt from her chest into her throat and started beating so fast she could hardly breathe.  Unreasonable terror caused her to start again, almost running, hoping that her eyes and ears were tricking herâŚwhy was she being followed?  A breathless whimper puffed from between her cherry colored lips.  âFuck.âÂ
With his pockets literally stuffed with money, and the obvious absence of major bruises, thatâs how you could tell that the crimson ring had treated him well. There had been some significantly big wins and, equally, some painful losses -- but luckily none of the losers thought as far as giving him a beating, as most of them settled for going after the first person to mouth off. And the best part of being a bookie was that none but him knew just how much money people had bet, which enabled some of the money to miraculously remain in his pockets when it necessarily shouldnât. Desperate means, and all that.
Even so he was in no hurry back to his apartment -- not when he was soaring above the many neglected rooftops of the void zoneâs outskirts. And especially not now, when his night vision had improved drastically. He could see without light, and right now the streets felt much like an anthill that he couldnât help but to spy upon. Raven had observed the silver zones from afar like this for quite some time, yet he had never been able to do so after nightfall. Until now. As he decided back and forth whether heâd dare make a little loop over the Minduelle district the blurred, yet distinguishable, features of a familiar person caught his attention.
The black wings beat with ease, near silent in-between the many seconds of gliding high above, at a distance. It seemed as if he had noticed the strange figure much earlier than she had, and so he continued to hover above, occasionally circling the sky as if to not get too far ahead. At first he was just being his good olâ curious self, and he didnât for a second think that Bom couldnât protect herself, but it soon became crystal clear that the situation just waiting to unfold wouldnât be a pleasant one. He couldnât hear much but the wind in his ears, yet he could see the growing panic in the way she moved.
Maybe he should mind his own business, but the slight guilt of actively spying on her ought to warrant some kind of compensation.
And so the winged man immediately dove towards the stalking figure. When he was a handful of meters above the other he spread his black wings again, parachuting his motion and rightfully giving the person quite a scare. Immediately afterwards he began to beat his wings again, pushing the other against the ground in a crouch as the strong winds he conjured left little to no room for free movement. Thatâs as far as Raven had planned to go, though, and with one final, more deliberate gust, he swept down in-between his friend and the man. The huge wings spread once more, now to nearly blow the other off the ground and push him back several steps. To make sure he caught the drift, he continued to send one strong gust after the other to basically force him down the next block -- and after that the man voluntarily rounded a corner and disappeared.
Just slightly out of breath, more so from the previous flight than what had just occurred, Raven collected his wings behind his back and turned to face Bom instead. A lopsided smile spread across his lips, and his voice ever so slightly apologetic. âI kind of saw you in passing, I hope you didnât mind. It looked a bit too stalker-y to be harmless.â
