it probably wonât surprise you to learn that some of the imagery in over the garden wall comes directly from antique halloween postcards. the vegetable car in particular is a well-known example of early twentieth-century halloween art.

thereâs always got to be something
âI quit my job for the first three months of this year and travelled with my husband. Â It wasnât exactly a mid-life crisis, but it was definitely a point in time. Â I had just been going through the motions. Â Getting through day-to-day. Â And suddenly I realized that there were so many cultures and parts of the world that I hadnât experienced first hand. Â Iâd been on vacations, but never more than two weeks. Â This was something different. Â It was a long enough time that days drifted into one another. Â We couldnât tell weekends from weekdays. Â There was no routine. Â We walked around a lot. Â We met a lot of great people. Â We were on a really tight budget, so we didnât do anything fancy. Â But there was a lot of peace: existing in the moment, forgetting about the future, not getting caught up in the âwhat ifâs.â Â I had thought that three months would be enough to get the traveling bug out of my system. Â But then I came back to London, and I hit the rat race, and everything is driven by money. Â Thereâs always this feeling of not having achieved enough. Â Of putting in one hundred percent and still being behind. Â Of living toward a paycheck, knowing that paycheck will determine what you can do to be happy. Â I do want the security. Â I just wish I could retain some of that sanity I felt while traveling. Â Itâs so hard to find peace in this environment. Â Youâre being pulled by so many small things, things so small that you donât even notice, until you step away from them completely.â (London, England)
