people complain too much in the onk tag about incest for something that was an absolute nothingburger
Aqua's biggest issue was his mental health, He was always suicidal and always planned to kill himself when he got his revenge. That's why his revenge was self destructive. Even when he had "happy" moments there was always tint of depression in there.
Like how he tells Ruby that he feels guilty for being alive. And his actions do put more fire to the fuel.
Or when Kana made him genuinely happy, He tells her that she is troublesome for it and that he has no right to be fun.
Aqua's biggest battle was himself. Gorou was a broken man who was (most likely) blamed for his Mother’s death. And failed to save anyone twice, He put this revenge shit, On little Aqua. After Ai's death, Aqua wanted to commit suicide but decided not too, because he wanted to take revenge for his father. His whole journey while it had happy moments, was to lead him to his fate. In TB, Aqua already decided that he can't be happy, Happiness causes him pain, Hence why he only acts for revenge despite him seeing as fun.
The only time he was able to be happy was when he thought his dad was dead. It was a lie, That gave Aqua happiness in short term. But he was still paranoid and trauma still affected him as it shown with his distance towards kana, Avoiding her withbout telling her anything, it also made him a ticking time bomb, Because as soon as he finds out he is going to back to his revenge.
Which is exactly what happened, But in the 2nd half its worst because for him, There was no turning back.
Not to mention:
-He accidentally slapped Kana
- Lied to alot of people
- And puts a gps tag on Akane
But those things did end up taking toll on Aqua, It also reinforces his whole "i have no right for this." "I feel guilty for being alive."
And Chapter 143 and 146, clearly show this. Because while he is still happy he is still depressed and self destructive.
So even if Gorou, says Aqua is free to choose, Aqua never take the route to "Happiness", For Aqua, revenge and happiness cannot coexist he needs to choose one. He still wanted to kill Hikaru but he also put his own life in Hikaru's hands and that if Hikaru ever tried anything he would kill him. In which he did and eventually did kill him and himself.
The writing isn't great, But Akasaka never planned Aqua to live. Murder-suicide unfortunately was always Aqua's plan. (I prefer the live actions resolution though).
Alsoa HUGE major character flaw about Aqua (which he never overcomes), Is that he doesn't think about other people's feelings. If Aqua thinks he is in the "Right" to do this then he is going to do it. Regardless how you may feel, Example, Avoiding Kana for half a year and giving 0 explanation to Why, Putting gps tag on Akane and killing himself without talking it out with Ruby.
Kana is right, This man sucks at communication. And ended up being his own downfall.
