The contrast, the formal politeness in public vs. the very deeply affectionate words in private.

YEAH THEY MAKE COMMITMENT TO EACH OTHER, A LOT.

One thing I find really interesting is that Jeremy said countless times that, unlike Holmes, he was such a romantic, and that playing the detective was actually painful at first.

But when he starts describing his imagined backstory for Holmes: a mother who was the brains of the family, an ex-army father, running off to Eton, joining the choir, tall and skinny with very few friends, then leaving his family to carve out his own path — and almost all of that matches his own life point for point.

Maybe he just completely merged with the character, maybe it’s something else. But the point is everyone ends up seeing a bit of themselves in Holmes…And somehow that’s both amusing and deeply satisfying

Wait, wdym when Watson titled the story The Empty House, he wasn’t referring to the one across the street, but to 221B itself? The place that, for him, had been truly empty for the past three years?

Every time Watson does the talking for both of them, Holmes looks so damn pleased.

like he’s clearly proud in a ‘look at my doctor being all capable and taking charge’ kind of way. these two are so cute i genuinely can’t handle.

think about this: Watson was finally, completely done with Holmes practicing shooting in their sitting room. so he set down his pen, pulled his revolver out of the drawer, and fired all six bullets straight at the ‘VR’ the detective had carved into the wall.

and when the gunshots faded, the number of bullet holes on the wall hadn’t changed one bit.

Holmes behaved himself for a whole two months after that.

Holmes’ gloomy face when Watson hadn’t come for breakfast yet:

Holmes: whoever becomes my roommate, i’ll buy him tobacco as homecoming gift, play violin to soothe him to sleep, take him to concerts…

Watson: where do i sign?

Holmes: …i wasn’t finished. i’ll also see through his entire life in one glance, keep him up all night on stakeouts catching murderers with me, and do target practice in the living room while he’s trying to rest.

Watson: WHERE DO I SIGN??!!

just noticed that in The Empty House, Holmes missed Watson’s hand on the first try and he actually reached out the second time to catch him

i’m losing it

another proof that after years being alone, he now needs to be as close to the doctor as possible

in the Granada version, Holmes came back from the hiatus, exhausted from all the long journey — yet instead of resting at 221B or taking the actual bedroom in the clinic, he chose to crash on the doctor’s rickety examination table

okay, my theory? after three years on run, he just wanted to sleep at the one place he knew was the safest in the world: any room with dear Watson and his revolver.

I’m shocked, again, by Granada Holmes series

just noticed that at the end of s02e05, Holmes handed his silver cigarette-case to Watson, and the Doctor gave it back when they arrived the front door of 221B:

and then in the next episode (yes Reichenbach), we all know Holmes laid the cigarette case on that note he left. it’s just this time the doctor had no one to give it back to…

can’t imagine how Watson must have felt about this but hey i am crying

I don’t think we talk about this shot enough. whoever was holding the camera, what were you thinking? I know nothing about cinematography, but this sure looks like these-two-in-a-relationship subtext going on

You wake up, open your eyes, and see Sherlock Holmes standing by your bed — so freaked out that you let out a string of curses

but you’re Watson, so you just sigh and say, ‘morning. what time is it? do we have a client waiting in our sitting room?’

Holmes was about to answer the client’s question, but Watson beat him to it with a classic detective line:

just look at Holmes’ face in the background! he’s so proud of his dear doctor you can almost hear his brain yelling out the affection

and this was his expression when interrupted by Mycroft in the next episode. tell me he doesn’t love Watson!
