I've been digging through this thread because I'm so fascinated.

He left for Mexico right after (?), and this is clearly an older women who has built a life around a long standing marriage.

The good thing is that people are very encouraging and telling her to divorce her husband and saying this is abuse. People are also saying all hope might not be lost for this tree!

God help me, I can’t believe this is real. This doesn’t even make sense. It’s not a zero-sum game, we can walk and chew gum at the same time, fighting for gay marriage doesn’t mean dropping everything else. Good thing there’s an LGB Alliance in India, hopefully they will take up this cause.

i live in brazil, and it’s always been shocking to me that people (mostly online, from countries like the usa) claim to support trans women while also being so enthusiastically in favor of “sex work”, saying it’s empowering and calling anyone who opposes to it (or who points out that women in prostitution aren’t doing it because they *~want~* to and it’s their *~choice~* but rather because they NEED to and we should be working to help them out of this situation not legalizing and normalizing prostitution) a swerf. over here, both within trans activism and radical feminism, that’s just a person with basic common sense. i’m not saying EVERYONE agrees because we’re millions of people who all think differently, but ig being from an impoverished country helps you see how none of this could ever be empowering. honestly i could go on and on about how unfair it is that only the usa (and a portion of western europe) get to decide the way we should think about issues that widely affect us, or otherwise we get labelled as bigots online

now i’m very much a gender critical woman, but i could never deny many (poor) trans women in my country end up in prostitution very often and suffer a great deal of violence for it. how can you say you love trans women and still support something that’s raping and killing them like this? how is it empowering to choose between being raped for money or starve to death? i’m sorry but these are things i’ll never understand about libfem’s mentality, no matter how much y'all try to paint prostitution as something glamorous and fun and empowering when it’s just not
