The “wrong way” to use a label is to use it to describe yourself when you fit none of its parameters.

We don’t let white people call themselves black because they “identify with” black culture.

We don’t let able-bodied people say they’re disabled because they “like the label.”

We don’t allow someone to say they’re Jewish or Christian because “religion’s just an umbrella.”

Bisexual means “attracted to both sexes.”  There is no other definition.  If that box is too “rigid” for you, that means you weren’t meant to fit in it.

Lesbian means “female homosexual.”  There is no other definition.  If that box is too “rigid” for you, that means you weren’t meant to fit in it.

And it’s pretty clear why “queer” is meaningless and people are jumping on to use it as a substitute for a personality - because there is no specified definition, anyone can say they’re “queer.”  Don’t like to fuck on Tuesdays?  Queer.  Prefer tall men to short men?  Queer.  Think you’re special because you want an emotional relationship before you have sex?  Queer.  Think you need a special gender because being straight is too boring?  Queer.  Want to force someone to use neo-pronouns to talk about you when you’re not around?  Queer.  (And fucking annoying.)

“Queer people” didn’t lose a damn thing when you started calling all of us “queer.”  Gay and lesbian and bisexual people did.  It robbed us of the ability to form cohesive groups around our own issues without letting in people who call themselves “stargender” and think not having sex makes them oppressed, since now we’re no longer marginalized by same-sex attraction - we can’t even mention biological sex or same-sex attraction and we’re all just “queer.”

Call yourself what you want, but don’t be surprised when there’s pushback.  You can’t call yourself an Orthodox Jew if you don’t meet the requirements.  You’re not a paraplegic if you’re not paralyzed from the waist down.  Similarly, you can’t be a male and call yourself a lesbian.  Words mean things for a reason.

Call yourself what you want, but for the love of fuck, stop calling people you don’t even know “queer.”  It is still a slur for those of us who are actually LGBT and have personalities.

I’m tired of being nice and having empathy for people who I know wouldn’t do the same for me. The Laetitia Ky situation is what sparked this post and it just shows that white men will be white men, no matter how they identify and what they wear. She spoke about sex-based oppression and got rape threats, death threats, racial slurs and even people wishing cancer on her. Teenage white dudes want to be oppressed so much that they’re cyberbullying a Black woman for speaking out about her experiences with misogyny. It’s truly a sign of male privilege to say that someone disagreeing with you is “violence.”

(I know some trans men are arguing with her too, but the difference is they aren’t the ones sending death threats and rape threats. We all know who does that.)

I’ve always tried to avoid saying this word since it’s strong, but I can’t anymore. I hate trans activists. I hate TRAs. I hate you. I wish you’d all fucking disappear.
