ngl when I started playing 7 for the first time I was expecting Cloud to be Weird™ about his sword, cause so many protagonists with big swords are obsessed with them on some level. But he's. Not.
He has some attachment to it of course, you can't get rid of it at any point, unlike most other characters first weapons, but he doesn't think or talk about it. It's just equipment.
And it makes sense why! It wasn't his sword until recently, he doesn't have a history with it. If you think about it, it's like how he carries around Zack's legacy without even remembering it. He's compelled to BE a SOLDIER, even if he has no need to be. (or knows why)
And while not quite what I was thinking, Zack IS kind of weird about the buster sword, because it means something to him. It's all he has left of someone important to him, and unlike Cloud, he remembers that.
Cloud doesn't really acknowledge the sword until after he remembers. Idk, I just think his attitude towards it reflecting the state of his memories is neat
