Breeches?

Poll time because I’m curious!

Tell me which country/region you’re from and if they pronounced “breaches” or “britches”

Okay, starting to think I’m the only person on Tumblr who calls them “britches” xD

This poll has yielded nothing.

I can’t find any real pattern as to who calls ‘em “britches” or “breaches”

Everyone out of the US calls them “breaches” or just jodhpurs… but within the US there is no region where people use the “britch” pronunciation.  That’s really interesting.

I'm from Los Angeles and 98% of the horse people I know say "breaches." However, two or three over the age of 60 call them "britches." I'd wager that age has something to do with it.

One thing that I’ve noticed Tumblr equestrians do is fixate on being athletes and “making it in this sport” with very little regard for people who don’t want to go to that level. 

All the time I see stuff like “You’re never going to make it in this sport if you don’t _____.” 

Riding can be important to someone without being their livelihood and dedicated equestrians of any kind deserve respect and attention.

I completely forgot to post about the horse show here!

I did indeed end up showing this past Sunday! I went out to the barn early to check Caleo and he was 100% fine, no heat or lameness at all. We registered for hunter on the flat and hunt seat equitation in the Xrails division, as planned. As for my rides, they certainly could have been better. I picked up the wrong lead once (fixed it within three strides) and let Caleo break the canter three times. But, realistically, my rides could have been much, much worse, given that I was shaking and on the verge of peeing my pants most of the time. We ended up with a second in the Hunter class (because Caleo is an angel baby) and a fourth in the equitation.

The placings were a little disappointing, seeing as how I was competing against a bunch of 10 year olds, but for my first show EVER, I'll take it.

I'm gonna post some photos and videos of my round here as soon as I get my hands on them. I may also be going to another schooling show in July! Will keep you posted, nonexistent blog readers.

So I may not be showing tomorrow after all. In our "one last practice before The Big Day" lesson this morning, Caleo tripped at a walk and fell over. Like...struggled to get up for a solid 30 seconds fell over. I fell off and onto my left shoulder. I took ibuprofen less than five minutes after the fall to ward off soreness, and a dose of Bayer Back & Body about six hours after but it's still not feeling 100%...worried how it might feel in the morning.

Caleo also got something for the pain -- vanilla flavored bute! I had to borrow some from another boarder, and I don't think I've ever encountered that kind before. We got it into him pretty quickly after the tumble, but he was definitely off and may not be sound enough to show tomorrow.

I'll be pretty upset if we end up being unable to compete. After all the hard work I've put into preparing for it...it would be a pretty huge bummer to have to watch from the sidelines. Let's see how it goes in the morning. Please keep your fingers crossed for me, all the people that don't read this silly blog!
