Comfort in Sickness

Would you be happy for someone who has a cold and tell them to not take care of themselves because having a cold makes their nose all red and pretty? Of course not, right? That’s just stupid.

But there are circles of people that would tell you to keep starving yourself just so you can hit your “goal weight”. Why is it that so many people listen to those circles?

Comfort. The answer is comfort in sickness.

How does that work? Well, basically, people create a “community” towards this illness, making you (The sick person) feel safe in it. Then, they can either glamorize or weaponize it. They’ll either make positive comments about the illness, encouraging you to keep doing it. Or, if they’re trying to weaponize it, they’ll use “toxic motivation”, which basically has the same effect on you. The trick in this is that the illness will be forced into you in the most comfortable way, that’s why there’s so many methods, so you can find comfort in your own sickness.

Then, inside the community you’ll feel comforted. As if you were inside a big happy family. People will share their experiences, their secrets or even their “tricks” to hide the illness. By doing that, you’ll be able to be vulnerable too, making you weaker and more controlled by your own illness. Of course, this isn’t the communities fault, because everyone is struggling, but if people that are struggling create a community based off of their illness, they’ll only get sicker.

And the worst thing? You’ll end up actually getting comfortable in the community, even if you weren’t even planning on entering it. And that’s because, unfortunately, you won’t be judged. They’ll bring you the comfort your parents or doctors may not give you, they’ll give you the understanding you were searching for, they’ll give you the comfort of being in your own skin that you crave. But at the end of the day, it’s like an addiction. The more you get attached to that community, the sicker you will get and (maybe) eventually sleep and never wake up again.

With that said, I want to give visibility to this problematic. Because more and more communities based on this mental illness are forming and even more people are getting influenced by it. We should be able to talk about our experiences with others that have been through the same thing too, but we can’t be all dragged into the illness.

Let’s bring back real comfort based off of love and not the comfort based off of sickness.

I don’t feel “girl” enough

I hope i’m not the only one that has this feeling, but it’s a weird one.

Every time I look at any girl on the street or at my class, it feels like they already have everything figured out. Not personality wise but more like feminine wise. It’s like they already know how to act girly enough, not being too much but neither too little.

Next to them, I feel like a creature. I feel new, new to this world. I feel like a clumsy giant, even if i’m smaller than them. I don’t know if it’s because i’m weird or because more girls feel like me.

I guess it’s because i’ve never really entered “girl world” and never experienced “girlhood”. But I feel really lonely seeing all the girls being able to feel and express their femininity while i don’t even know how to feel like a girl without being embarrassed about it.

They are not “just dreams”

Stop telling yourself that your dreams are dumb.

I personally hate it when I see someone talking about their dreams and then see people mocking them because their dreams are “unrealistic”. It pisses me off.

But what pisses me off more about that is that the people calling those dreams “unrealistic” are the kind of people settling down on things they hate while winning insane amounts of money. They simply know how to play the game.

But you know what? That’s stupid. We don’t know if we’ll have another life after this one, of course, we can believe we do, but at the end of the day, the only thing we can know for sure is that we only have one life.

Let’s imagine for a second here that there isn’t anything after death. No second opportunities. No heaven. No hell. Just a pure, obscure nothing. Let’s say that you would be completely alone with only your thoughts. You would think about your life at some point, right? Would you like to look back and be disappointed? Be disappointed knowing you wasted your whole life in something you didn’t even like because “it made a lot of money” or “it was more stable”?

That’s what the people that won’t follow their dreams will feel. Of course, they’ll have their own achievements, but at the end of the day, they will feel empty inside. That emptiness will be inside them forever. During eternity.

I’m not saying that’s what will happen after death, because no one knows what will happen. We don’t know if that’s what they will feel after death, but, that’s how they will feel during their whole life. Empty.

Following your dreams will always be the darker path, the one almost no one takes because it’s “too risky”. But you know what happens to the people that follow that path? The people that don’t give up even though that path is hard sometimes? They will always win. I’m not saying they will be rich or successful. I’m saying that they will feel whole, complete. They feel something the majority of people don’t feel because they’re too scared to try; They feel wholeness. That’s the only reward that makes all that path worth trying. Feeling whole because you always followed your dreams without looking back.

You should never call your dreams dumb again, instead, you should follow them. Follow the hard path, follow it knowing it’s worth it. There will be people telling you to give up, to follow the easy path as everyone else does. But you won’t listen to them. Not when you’re making your dreams come true.

Because at the end of the day, we are born with wings in a world that teaches us how to walk.

Don’t take the first step, dare to fly.

I’m not just a girl

As a society, we’ve normalized the phrase “I’m just a girl” too much.

This single phrase roots from undercover misogyny to act as a silly saying among girls that has been getting more popular as time went on.

The term “just” minimizes the woman and human being you are, it replaces your own personal identity with the term “girl” made to infantilize you. This is the purpose of misogyny, to treat women as incapable human beings that need help from the “superior” gender.

And the funniest thing is that our whole gender has embraced this phrase. Using it as a funny saying when you do something dumb or to justify your actions. But by doing this we’re accepting what that phrase says about us, what misogyny says about us, we’re accepting that we’re inferior.

We’re not inferior, we’re not weak and we’re not just girls. We’re women and we should start treating ourselves as such.
