Warriors: Chasing Shadows (SPOILERS)

Guys… what are we doing? Listen, I understand that I am much older than the demographic at this point for these books, but I know the Wings of Fire series has better writing than this.

What I am most disappointed with is how Moonpaw is acting/ reacting to everything and how her clan is reacting to her. The book SAYS being are acting strange and untrusting of her, but it never SHOWS that. It only shows the cats that immediately understand her situation and sympathize with her. And cats who DO call her out get immediately shut down. What was the whole point of the last two books and her anxiety?

I honestly thought this book would end with Starlingpaw calling her out during a clan meeting and her running away after that. That’s what it was leading UP TO. But Starlingpaw doesn’t interact with her until the LAST CHAPTER of the book.

This is another situation where they have too POVs and don’t know what to do with them.

My favorite chapters in this book was Starlingpaw’s and Tawnypelt’s when Brambleclaw passed.

The Brambleclaw death chapters were the best part of this book, and I’ll attempt it was very nostalgic coded to me. I’ve reading these books since middle school. I was there when Brambleclaw was born and saw him slowly decline in the last two arcs.

As for Morningkit… I wish they would have actually given her a personality. I wish they actually did the “she Mapleshade born again” theory. It would give her something to do.

Here’s my last thing: I want Starlingpaw to be the villain in the next arc. I want this to be his origin story. I want his need for truth be his sword where he murders a cat.

Rating: Meh/10

After book 1 & 2 I’m so disappointed in this one.

Also: I ship Tawny & Crow. Let that man get with every clan.

how I love Moonpaw and Starlingpaw. My two little freaks. My two little weirdos. My two little sillies. I like this new warriors protag type that started with Shadowsight (includes Shadow, Root, and Frost): the not quite normal one.

I love them and am holding them so close.

People like Hank Green and Odds Ones Out making brilliant videos about Warriors (even the fandom or the works itself), is us breaking out of our containment.

Finished Hidden Moon (audiobook) and this is by far the best book for background cats in a long time. Thunderclan still has way too many cats (that are all related…), but the actual attention to apprentice/ mentor relationships in Starling & Moon and PARENT relationships in Starling, Moon and Tawny were a good growth from the Starless Clan trio.

This one is also one of the few arcs where I’m not sure wants gonna happen next. At the same, these 1st two books don’t feel like filler books because there’s always a filler book in this 6 book format they’ve created. (I’m looking at you the last 3 books of Visions of Shadows.)

Also, if Crowfeather dies, I die. I know it’s gonna happen someday, and I rather it be on screen than off screen but… he’s one of the best characters from the New Prophecy. AND ALSO WHAT DID HE LEARN??

I will also like to state how A Vision of Shadows and definitely A Broken Code were a celebration of the first arc cats (Sandstorm and Graystripe mostly), but this is most certainly a celebration for the New Prophecy gang.

I’ve been reading these books since they originally came out (original covers and everything) and having a throw back cast is nice for the older reader. I believe the editors have realized the large part of the fandom is older now and love those nostalgia elements. I think also, with them designing the New Prophecy as a graphic novel soon… they need to bring these cats back into our minds.

Cats of Lunar >> Strays TTRPG Concept

Hello everyone! It’s been a minute so let me rehash some things:

Strays TTRPG Concept - 4th edit.pdf

I wanted to create a TTRPG influenced by the Warrior Cats Series by Erin Hunter. I LOVE DnD, Call of Cthulhu, etc., so I wanted to use my skills to build something.

I am definitely using ideas from other TTRPGs, but hopefully in a way that shows off these brilliant games mechanics rather than stealing them.

“Strays” using D6s for literally everything and is similar to Warhammer and Vampire the Masquerade dice pool mechanics.

This is DEFINITELY a working progress and needs more edits. I did an huge edit of the thing and just want to show something.

I plan on adding a Ritual explanation section where you see all the Rituals in a list. I also plan on maybe adding a couple other little elements like clan management for if people really wanna be a clan cat!

After that though, I’ll just clean up the words, put some page numbers and chapters and call it a day. I not trying to built a hundreds of pages of lore but you never know.

Sorry for longgggggg hiatus with Cats of Lunar/ Strays. I work in waves. I’ll have days for creative spark and then stop for a while.

Mostly with the fact, I’m reimagining some aspects of the mechanics, so I’m taking more time for stuff.

I want a whole optional “clan management” version of the game if certain people want to play that way. And I want to be more down to earth than “cats with magical powers.”

It’s a lot of reworking. But that’s okay! Sometimes you scrap stuff and maybe use it for later.

I am editing the cats of lunar TTRPG to turn away from quasi-mythical cats to a more gritty TTRPG.

The rebrand will be called “Strays.” Or maybe something else? We’ll figure that out.
