I liked the idea of a modified eureka clap for Simon, but instead of high five (because you don't need a second person to clap) I raise you this: Simon slapping open palmed across his chest, by his shoulder. Still makes a noise and he doesn't need Grace around to have his own little moment of realization and celebration. which then maybe turns into Grace doing his Erueka claps as a chest slap too because he mimics people he's close with

I think it'd be really funny if Simon crashed onto Erid, and only saw Eridians first. "Aliens from an alternate dimension" feels more... digestible, in a way? He knows humans aren't necessarily trustworthy — but rocks are familiar. Rocks have less motive to hurt him.

Until he asks "Wait why are you able to translate my language so well" and the Eridian scientists have to admit they were trying to do a slow introduction of Simon to Grace. Like a conservation program at a zoo. Maybe this is a silly idea but I think it'd be fun for Simon to trust the Eridians more than the other human. At least rocks don't lie?

While we’re talking about mischaracterizations, Grace is not just an awkward anxious fumbling mess. He is sometimes. He is a mess but not just a social anxious one, you know? I don’t even think he has social anxiety, just regret after doing a social blunder. He’s actually quite far from the nerdy socially awkward scientist trope that I feel some people put him in. He’s quite charming actually. That’s why so many people liked him. He likes to talk but he doesn’t ramble about random things it all has a reason he just talks about it for a little bit too long. He has no problems going up to people and talking to them and actually seems to love it, to including them. He’s confident about his ability to teach and was fine talking to the astronauts and explaining things to them until Yao interrupted and he could tell it was directed towards him- that would trip up anybody. He had his moments where he’s nervous about talking, like in the conference room with the scientists scene, but he quickly adjusts and wins over the skeptical scientist team. I think those scenes are more to show that he’s in a tricky situation that makes him nervous not that he’s a typically social anxious guy. After the flashback he writes “jokes???” On the white board bc that’s his main take away about his character in interacting with people.

I see too many people forget he’s charming. He’s funny. He’s goofy. He gets a group of stern police leader to cheer with him. He’s confident in his element, especially after his character growth. He’s not gonna stutter the whole time or fold when someone with higher authority bosses him around. He pushed back a little first, in the books he’s grumpy and reluctant to listen to Stratts orders if he feels they’re unfair. Also he’s just played but Ryan Gosling so there is a level of goofy charm I just miss seeing in Grace interpretations.
