Roads are relatively clear today, the asphalt burning in the heat and skyline painted in shades of peach and orange, music sounds sweeter with him and he likes to sing along even when his voice breaks, his monolids closings as he hits the high notes.
Hands resting on the wheel he looks at me still expecting me to sing.
‘ I told you I can’t sing’ I said softly.
The music resumes and this is my favourite song, this is my favourite person and I think this is my favourite day. He’s driving in the sun’s direction with all shades of peach dancing on his face making him look prettier, somehow it washed away all my worries. Hoshi stole a glance or two of me tapping my fingers on the window along the beats.
We pull over and the parking lot is almost empty the city looks beautiful today and the supermarket has the lights switched on. We stepped out and he stretches, gentle breeze brushes his dark hair and I think I quivered a little.
I wonder if sun loves him too, his one arm stretched towards the sky and the other towards me, he looked at me squinting through his eyes and he chuckled.
I got caught staring and he walks with the tiny steps towards me, he’s holding me right now and it all happened within the blink of an eye. He smiles and his cheeks touch his eyes that are now sparkling with mischief the black hair flowing with wind, he’s shy but he doesn’t say. I think my heart just sank I have never felt this happier in my life, this boy is making me feel all sorts of feelings right now and I can feel my ears turning red. Does he know that this little gesture just made my stomach flip, ‘not right now, this is embarassing’ I said to myself standing in his soft embrace as sky kept singing with the wind.
‘Stop looking at me like that or I’d not let you go’ he forewarned me.
I felt like running away in the field nearby and not stopping till the sunsets, he just held my face and kept laughing, making my ears redder. He knew what I was going through and he was enjoying it.
‘you started it’ he is snarky at times and I love it.
He walked inside the store holding my hand, we are out of snacks and he has taken a liking to yogurt. At the holds my hand again puts it straight in his hoodie pocket, I can’t stop smiling and still don’t understand why I kept looking at our feet, I think I’m shy around him too.
Hoshi sat on the pavement with yogurt in his hand, I leaned on his shoulder as the soft music played in the car. An year ago I would not have believed it, to have found someone who understands me and thinks about me. It’s a sweet feeling like the yogurt this man is eating, its not harsh or vivid but mellow like the music we are listening to and this feeling does not go away even on the days I want to runaway from it. It lingers.
