hikaru was missing for one week before yoshiki found him and he returned fundamentally changed (being an allegory for discovering your queerness) the real hikaru loved yoshiki, so the god that occupies his body has no choice but to love yoshiki. the hikaru that gave up his body so his yoshiki wouldn't be alone
this is so maddeningly byler. you merge the subtext of the anime with the plot and you get a possessed will, one eye will, powers will learning to be okay with the parts of himself that he can't change. the parts of himself that he couldn't repair and the parts that he lost. you also get mike keeping possessed will's secret. you get selfish, guilty mike who's the reason for will's possession because in the real story, will got hatecrimed in the woods. but mike needs will, and out of his love entire dimensions and monsters were born. and will can't leave mike alone in this. so they are monsters together, and always will be.
another thing was when hikaru's mom said welcome home. i burst into tears. thinking about joyce's baby will who isnt really will at all (but he is. just locked away somewhere inside the monstrous feeling) the holly/kaoru parallel is right there too

but instead of the possession being an instant replacement, it's slow. from the moment mike's desperation/will's determination (their love for each other) saves will to the tipping point.
mike notices instantly. will's eyes getting darker. sometimes his left eye would spasm in its socket but will wouldn't even notice. he didn't need them to see anymore, he could fill in the blanks around without needing to use his body. he was becoming more entity than human. but it wasn't like the first time. it didn't look like the thing was eating him, finishing him from the inside. it looked like will was coming back, returning with the light he had before november of 1983. this will clung to his jacket and got his way, messed around with holly, smiled for his mom and meant it. he was happy most of the time. but it wasn't the real will. the real will now showed up in episodes, bouts of despair after he ended up hurting someone. cue some homoerotic stuff.

in the end, will tames the monster and becomes the sorcerer. that or something sad. tshd also has a plot with memories and forgetting related to impurities. i might mess around with forgotten will too.

i was going to write this conformitygate fic where mike dreams of little will in the void every night while he's in flayed hawkins. sometimes it's the will from the swings, sometimes its a sad will with bruises, sometimes it's will after the possession, sometimes it's little will on antidepressants, sometimes it's will from when he was in the upside down. he talks to him, comforts him and has certain realizations in the story told through the course of his dreams.
but now im not going to so im putting the idea out for people to pick up
