My experience with this mod so far.

Yeah it's kinda hard, but I know two tricks actually!

If you see him coming up from a distance, get into a tall spot, and wait for him to do that event where he slowly approaches to dig a present for you. Then throw the items at him. Sometimes it works well;

Wait for him to start the same event but drop the items on the ground and walk backwards slowly, he will typically follow you, and you can make him walk into the items.

You know it worked because you'll get a "+1 mood" message in green. Usually.
