lolaxmartin:
“Then, no. I don’t need anything.”
“okay. well, my name’s piper. if you do need anything, just let me know and i’ll see what i can do.”
gcthroxi:
“you want another one? damn, more power to you.” she laughed. “that’s some of the most mom-like stuff i think i’ve ever heard. she’s lucky to have you.”
“maybe not right this second, or even very soon, but i wouldn’t mind having another one. a boy, hopefully. that looks like me. people think i lie about kaitlyn being mine because she’s toe-head blonde, but she gets that from her dad, god rest his soul.”
edenism:
“a lot of the staff here don’t seem to have brains at all.” harsh? maybe, but eden couldn’t help but think it was the truth. they were robots, almost all of them blindly following books they’d read instead of actually trying to get through to the patients. the mother-daughter interaction made her chuckle lightly. it was almost as if she missed her own mother..who she couldn’t even remember as more than a passing memory. it was a weird feeling. “if she keeps on being nosy, she’d probably make a good staff. almost all of them i’ve met are nosy as hell.”
“i haven’t met all of them, but i’ll take your word for it. i’ve met my fair share of unintelligent doctors,” she said with a nod. “she would. but she actually wants to be a detective when she’s old enough, don’tcha kat?” kaitlyn nodded quickly. “yeah, i wanna be like nancy drew! she solves all kinds’a cool stuff. i’ll save the good guys and get the bad guys thrown in jail,” kaitlyn said.
memphisbb:
pulling the ipad away from her chest, she typed into the notes, her name, memphis. pointing at herself.
“memphis. that’s pretty, i’ve never heard of that being a name before but i like it,” she said with a smile. “do you prefer typing over using your voice?”
edenism:
“that’s what i said, but, they didn’t seem to care ‘bout what i said.” her shoulders shrug. they didn’t seem to wanted to listen to a word she said, instead simply instructing eden to do what they wanted without complaint. “oh. she’s cute.”
“a lot of doctors don’t. it’s pretty sad when a nurse has more brains than someone that went to school for a better degree,” she said. “thanks. she’s even cuter when she’s not nosy,” she said, playfully sticking her tongue out at kaitlyn. “i’m not nosy, i’m curious,” kaitlyn said. “curiosity killed the cat, my love,” piper commented as she walked to her desk and started writing on a note pad. “i’m not a cat, i’m a human.”
gcthroxi:
“wait, seriously? that’s a thing? oh hell no, i’ll go for that hippie drug free shit then.” she shook her head. typically she’d hate listening to someone gush about their kid, but she could tell that piper wasn’t even exaggerating. her daughter did seem like a sweet little girl, which made roxi’s heart ache just the tiniest bit. her sisters had been the same way when she’d met them, but that had changed as they got older. they’d gotten to be more and more like her, which she always thought wasn’t the best thing for them, but she couldn’t help it. “oh, i believe it. i’d be the same way without my sisters. i basically raised ‘em from when they were that age. i would be totally different if it wasn’t for them, too.”
“it is very much a thing. next time i have a baby, i’m definitely doing home birth so i don’t have to deal with the annoying nurses,” she said. “i think even if she was the biggest brat on earth, i’d still love her no matter what. i mean, i made her. she’s the one thing i’ve made that i’ll forever be proud of and never get tired of. that’s pretty special.”
gcthroxi:
“what the fuck? if you want to suffer through birth with no drugs then you should be allowed to, no matter how dumb that sounds.” she laughed softly. “oh, that’s a good age. they’re still sweet when they’re little like that.” she nodded, “i’m tellin’ you, eleven and twelve are the fucking worst, they’re like hormonal little shits who think they rule the world. i’m sure she won’t be as bad as most ‘cause she’s got a chill mom, but like, y’gotta be prepared, y’know?”
“i was more worried about the needle being stuck into my spine paralyzing me than i was the temporary pain that i don’t remember now radiating through my vagina,” she shrugged. “and the sweetest she is. when i take her to school, i have to give her a kiss. when it’s bedtime, i have to lay with her and read her a book. when we’re making dinner, she doesn’t help me, i help her. i didn’t even like kids until i had her. she literally changed everything for me. as cheesy as that sounded coming from my mouth, it’s true. she’s just one of those kids. i feel conceited saying it, but it’s true for me. i’d definitely be a different person if it weren’t for her.”
gcthroxi:
“god, i’d literally rather fucking die.” she shook her head. “that’s fucked up, y’all are better anyway. doctors are entitled assholes who think they’re better than everyone. y’know, actually, don’t go get a doctor degree, you’re chill enough as is.” she shrugged. “oh, right. how old is she again? m’sure you’ve got a few good years left, they’re good until they’re like eleven, if you’re ever gonna go back to school, go then so you get to miss all the puberty bullshit.”
“some doctors are. some i’ve worked with have been. but it’s not just doctors that are like that. some nurses can be the same way. when i was in labor, the nurse that was originally assigned to me told me i had to have an epidural --- so i told the stupid bitch i didn’t have to have anything and if she kept trying to push drugs onto me i’d turn her in. had a new nurse thirty minutes later,” she shrugged. “she just turned five. eh, i don’t think i’ll mind those years. she’s a girl after my own heart. honestly, i thought she was gonna turn out a real pain in the ass by now because i was a brat and a half at her age, but i got a good one.”
gcthroxi:
“i’ll think about it. the doctors here always try n’get me to do shit i don’t need, like get a flu shot and shit. like, bitches, i didn’t have a flu shot for like ten years and i didn’t get it, i don’t need it.” she laughed to herself, raising an eyebrow as she looked at piper. while she didn’t particularly like any of the medical staff, she didn’t mind piper. “what’s the point of being a nurse if you can’t give out the drugs people need? why don’t you just like, go get a doctor degree or somethin’? y’all know more than them anyway.”
“oh, i know. it’s a requirement for all medical staff anywhere to get an annual flu shot. it never prevents the flu for me. i’m gonna get it either way. it’s just an annoying mess,” she said. “a nurse is just a helper bee. doctors are the queen bees. if i went back to school for a degree, it would take years. and money. i make good money, but not good enough to go back to school. besides, i have a kid to worry about. i feel like i never get to see her already, going back to school would mean never seeing her until she’s grown up and got a family of her own.”
gcthroxi:
“fair, but if i severed an artery wouldn’t i be dead by now? or like, at least bruised?” roxi knew that piper was right, but arguing with the staff was one of her favorite hobbies, and she wasn’t about to let her know she agreed with her. “i’ll take the splint though. and maybe some like, ibuprofen? this feels like shit. and like, what if i hate all those doctors? you’re practically one, right? can’t you just do the x-ray yourself?”
“it depends on how fast the bleed is, honestly. but you have a good point,” she nodded. “splint and ibuprofen i can give you. x-rays, a tech has to do. prescription ibuprofen a doctor will have to give you though. i can only give you a dose, so even if you don’t like doctors then you might wanna still go just for pain relief. i can suggest a prescription, but i can’t actually write one.”
gcthroxi:
“damn, sounds like something i really don’t want to do.” she sighed. “y’think i have to? am i gonna die if i don’t?”
“nah, probably not. but, you won’t know if there’s bleeding on the inside or whether a possible broken bone has severed a vein or an artery. so i mean, it’d be in your best interest to get an x-ray done, but i’m just a nurse, i can’t make you do anything. i can splint it for you though. it would be a soft cast just to stabilize and then a doctor can do a further examination. you don’t have to, but as a medical professional, that’s what i’d do.”
edenism:
eden does as she’s told, settling on the bed and waiting for piper to begin. “i told them it was from just playing around but they didn’t believe me.” her head shakes. at the sound of the tiny girls voice, the blonde lets out a chuckle. “nah. it’s cool.” her hands are folded in her lap. it was funny, how little kids could just say whatever was on their mind without having to think twice about how it might be percieved to some. “is that your kid?”
piper nodded, her eyes skimming over the bruises and gave her a small shrug. “honestly, there’s nothing suspicious about them. they’re getting that yellow and greenish color to them so they’re obviously healing, so i’ll just write a note for you,” she said before nodding again. “yeah. my babysitter’s sick so she had to come with me today.”
memphisbb:
memphis’ face softened at the sign of the nurse though she still clutched the ipad to her chest. she didn’t know if the other knew she didn’t like talking. the small girl bit her lip, shaking her head now and training her eyes at the floor. she was never ever good with new people.
“okay. well, my name’s piper --- so if you do need anything, just let me know okay?”
lolaxmartin:
“Got a time machine?”
“unfortunately not, but if i did, i’d go back to prom and not have eaten the shrimp.”
blczeitup:
blaze listened to her carefully, what she was saying made sense, but she just wished the pain would go away like — NOW. nodding she stretched her arm out to show the nurse her hand which was stitched up the side.
“ouch,” she said. “how’d you do that?” she asked, gently brushing her thumb across one of the ties. “is that painful?”
gcthroxi:
“god, my hand is so fucked up, dude. this look broken to you?”
“well, you never can really tell for sure without an x-ray, but it definitely doesn’t look good. i can examine it for you and then put in a request for an x-ray, but as far as repairs go, a doctor’s in charge of all that.”
edenism:
“i don’t think so.” they hadn’t said anything about a note. eden wasn’t sure as to what they expected to come out of this checkup, but went along anyways. “nah. i mean, they were a few weeks ago but they’re fine now.”
“alright. well, if you’ll hop up there on the bed, i’ll check ‘em out and write a note anyways just to let them know you’re fine. most bruises can take up to four weeks to completely heal, and doctors here should know that but i’ll look for extra measure. it also depends sometimes on how you got them,” she said as she put a pair of gloves on. “did someone hurt you?” kaitlyn asked, causing piper to turn around quickly. “hey. i’m the nurse. let me do the investigating, you just keep coloring,” she said before looking back to eden. “sorry about that. she’s just a little nosy.”
