The way black sails reveals information in flashbacks is so diabolical because it's like, hey there are huge things shaping this narrative that you might not know about. They could become clear at any time, or they could remain secret forever. What else don't you know because this is a story about stories? The reveal about Thomas in 205 is obviously the first one that clues you in to how the show operates, but the pattern is repeated with the reveal that Madi and Silver were sleeping together when Silver is presumed dead, and again with the Silverflint swordfighting scenes. Mr. Scott's secret isn't revealed through a flashback but it fits this pattern. It makes me crazaayyyyy. It's a story about stories and lies and the truth that keeps purposefully telling us we only know what we are allowed to know, what the characters can bear us knowing. Diabolical.
