OP did a lovely job with this piece. The pose they picked is a difficult one to do correctly and dynamically- the doubling over is hard to illustrate without making it look weird or poorly drawn, the low seat of the “pelvis” making the figure dip down lower (to emphasize the clutching motion of the hands) is a hard perspective to imagine without a reference. I liked the way OP chose to draw the shoulders, evoking both the hunching of shoulders that would be present in a fleshier painting and drawing out the strong, dynamic curve of the body.
The blood, the desperate clutch, the crying and the pose all suggest something religious, making the post all the more impactful with its drawing- The caramel frappe does not answer the subject, just as God does not answer the subjects of paintings who depicted the same theme.
It’s also intriguing where OP chose to put details. In amostly minimalist creation, the (relatively) detailed frappe, hands, and face guides your eyes in a a dynamic way- from the frappe to the face, then follows the line of the body out to the end of the legs- making the art more interesting to the eye.
I have a theory about the colors that I’m not sure is true, but I think the subject being black and white separates it from the frappe, which is fully colored. The blood, neither frappe nor person colored, acts as a connector between the two– the only ways the two subjects can connect are through touch and sight, both of which causes the human subject pain. Then again, I may be reading into things too much idk

idk, just thinking about it while watching sam in the s3 finale, stealing into a nursery and looming over a mother and her demon-touched child with a knife in his hand
(gently & pre-emptively trapping bad-faith responses to this situational echo under a cup and releasing them outside... no, it is not some attempt to Make A Point at sam's expense, the fucked-upness and struggle of it is narratively sexy to me. for the love of god. i think i've been around this fandom too long already if i feel the need to anticipate & articulate any of this.)
I love how the full brunt of Sam's rage runs completely frozen, as opposed to how Dean flares up. Everything is obsessively even and symmetrical. He practically made art out of his weapon storage, ffs. His guns are ordered by size, in addition to being mirrored.
Just look at that wall. He used the wall tiles as guides. The map is occupying equal sections of squares; papers are all level, with even margins. And it's over the bed, of all places, hard to access and where normally you'd hang artwork or something.
The books on the table are squared and aligned with the binder edges. The hand towel in the bathroom is folded in precise thirds and hung exactly in the middle. No housekeeping will have stepped into this room either, not with that wall, so we know that's all Sam.
The more I watch this scene, the more I applaud set design for nailing the details. It shows a fascinating opposition in their characters, but also how they need to be together to be human. When separated, it's like they each only have one half of the human condition, and they need to be together to be whole and functional.
Adding these from 1x20 Dead Man's Blood and applauding the set design too because this is so far from a coincidence. Mystery Spot has that inescapable John Winchester aroma. When Dean is not around, Sam becomes his father 'it's the same selfish obsession!' 'my father was an obsessed bastard!'. And then it happens again in s4, Dean is back but Sam doesn't care, he wants revenge, wants Lilith's head on a platter.
Needed to highlight what is probably my favorite aspect and key difference between Sam and John too which is the way in which they organize information: the room John rented in the Pilot shows his degree of thoroughness, one which the boys tend to follow for the most part for the majority of the series, but it also shows very pointedly a state of disarray (which could be explained away by the fact he might've had to leave in a rush or something along those lines, but I still think it's worth noting).
However, as showcased by the screencaps from OP, Sam's room is in a perfect state of order; yes, he is inhabiting it at the moment, and knowing him he's bound to clean up after himself, but it's the level of meticulousness in the organization of his notes that interests me further. There's another key difference here of course: John was just working a normal job, whereas Sam is specifically hunting the creature that put him through hell and then took Dean away from him, and I would agree except we do get another example to mirror the situation Sam finds himself in and it's in 1x21 Salvation, when John decides to share his findings with his sons.
Please do your best to focus on the backgrounds and not on the lovely actors' faces.
Here we can see how even then, even when he's specifically showing information about the thing that's ruined his life and cursed his family, there's still a level of disorder to it. What this shows us is that the state of Sam's orderly room and immaculate state of his wall of information, how seemingly detached on the surface while being aware of the obsessiveness that fuels it, the single-mindedness of it all -- that's all Sam.
He goes above and beyond just being similar to John, he's better.
at some point in your life you will be boiling fruit, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a pot to make a syrup or jam. the instructions will tell you to simmer for a certain amt of time. your timer will go off and you will look at the pot and go, "hm, this doesn't look thick enough. maybe i'll let it go for another 10 minutes." this is the devil speaking. it's only so liquid right now because it is at boiling point. it will thicken when it cools down. learn from the follies of my youth and do not let this happen to you
at some point in your life you will be making a sauce or a stew in which you need to add cornstarch to thicken it. and you will prepare a slurry of starch in cold water and think "this looks like way too little starch to thicken this amount of liquid." this is the devil speaking. cornstarch instantly polymerizes at 95°C and if you add too much it will turn into an impossibly thick goop.
at some point in your life you will be making some sort of cream based dessert that requires gelatin to thicken it. and you will soak some gelatin sheets in water and think "this is too few gelatin sheets for this amount of cream." this is the devil speaking. it will thicken in the fridge and if you add too much you will end up with milk jelly
at some point in your life you will be baking cookies. you will take the sheet out after twelve minutes as the recipe instructs and the cookies will still be glistening and soft. "these don't seem cooked enough," you will think to yourself, "i should place them back into the oven until their edges are nice and golden." this is the devil talking. this is how you get dry, overdone cookies. the cookies will continue to bake on the warm sheet for several more minutes and then harden up after sitting on a rack for a while. trust the process. trust the process.
