The Positives of “Echo Fighters”

1. They are solemnly spilt from their “doubles” not by moveset, but by personality

Yes you can make the jokes that these characters should not even be fighters given the fact their moves are chosen to just mirror their doubles; however rather than make these characters costume skins of the past, they are split off from their doubles because there is more to show about them other than moves.

Daisy is energetic and spunky, Dark Pit is Pit’s opposite (the lone wolf), and Lucina is a strategic yet brutal warrior. These personalities would not be shown if we only saw these characters as costume skins.

2. They get to show how their “doubles” influenced them

I’m not even mad that Daisy is Peach’s Echo Fighter. Why? Because we’ve already known for years that Peach and Daisy are similar. They’re practically like sisters they act so alike (due to being close friends and their kingdoms being tied). The same can be said for Dark Pit and Lucina. Yes they deserve other moves of their own, but the fact remains that they are influenced by the doubles they are based on. Lucina disguised herself as Marth in order to go undercover - of COURSE she would think to act like him if she didn’t want to get her cover blown. Dark Pit as well is literally Pit’s clone - he’s the same in size and build, indicating that logic stands to reason he would think to fight the same as Pit would.

While there would be logical reason as well to have these characters have their own moves, the fact that they also have a double that has somewhat inspired them and have them look up to is also solid logic.

3. They represent a new and special group of characters

And that group is what I like to call “The Obscured but also Noticed

These are characters that I feel represent Nintendo franchises, but are still coming out on their own as their own person. Even though we don’t always associate them with their respective franchise, we do remember them for reasons based on their character, or the actions they have taken in respective games. Daisy we remember as the tomboy princess with a loud attitude, we remember Dark Pit’s role in Uprising and his relationship with Pit, and we remember Lucina for her bravery in dealing with a threat from her future, as well as her showing promise of being a fitting ruler.

These characters do not deserve to be costume skins…but fighters. Even if they are smaller than the big stars.
