just me and my shit yaoi from a thing thats bad
The most disgusting thing is how they tried to make queer love less deep than straight love, I will never forgive them for that... Will Byers loved Mike in a pure and true way and always will
âhe should be at the clubâ well heâs at the club and he wants to fucking kill himself
The legacy of stranger things that the duffers did not plan for
sorry what's going on. i blacked out after buck told eddie he thinks he gets off on punishment
thereâs been a wave lately of people saying âwhy does every ship have to be canon now? back in my day we just played in our sandboxes, the characters didnât even have to know each other, etc. etc.â and while i think thereâs some truth to that, i also think itâs true that the goalposts and expectations for queer representation have moved. itâs no longer âenoughâ to be satisfied with canon implications, but no canon confirmation or resolutions, because it never really was. people expect more now. we want to see queer love stories on our screens in all genres and all places, not just confined to their own genre that any modern viewer can easily opt out of. it would be important, for example, to see buck and eddie from 9-1-1, two traditionally âmasculineâ men in a traditionally masculine profession, falling in love, and have that explicitly acknowledged on screen. because for the general audience, thatâs transformative. itâs showing them something new, something that absolutely does exist in real life, that they might not have ever been exposed to or aware of or would typically ignore, but because they like buck and eddieâs characters, it makes them think about how people they know and like, people they wouldnât âexpectâ to be queer, still can be. (we saw this when buck came out as bi! which, btw, is a storyline that still needs to be explored more and given more legitimate weight).
similarly to mike in stranger thingsâagain, an âaverage guyâ kind of character, the self-insert of the series, someone who fights monsters and gets with the girl. will is great representation, but heâs also a character that people expect to be gay. he fits their pre-conceived idea of what a gay person looks like (as does robin), so they can continue watching without adjusting much of their worldview. itâs the untold stories that need to be told and given weight in mainstream media. ones of comphet and finding yourself late in life, of struggling and falling in love and accepting joy, even when it doesnât come in a form you expect, because thatâs real. that helps people in the audience, who may not have ever thought about these things in relation to themselves, think: is that me? or: is that someone i love? it brings the subtextual and the unspoken into light, has the audience confront it in a genuine and unexpected way. i think thatâs what audiences are so hungry for, when they beg and beg for their queer subtextual ships to be canon. weâve had decades of subtext! decades of fanon and fan interpretations and storytelling and not being taken seriously or respected by people outside our communities. people who say: âof course that character isnât queer: just look at them.â itâs important to tell these stories. itâs important to tell them well. canon is important, and i think we can demand more for ourselves without being âput back in our placeâ or âasking for too much.â
what if⌠too little too late by laufey ⌠but bylerâŚ
self-promoting my fic two days after I post it isnât illegal (right?)
i feel genuinely so bad for people who are convinced by conformitygate. because you guys are geniuses, you're so persevering and smart and we all deserved better.. but babygirl i need you to take a deep breath for a second. spend some time with your friends, move on, try your best to find better shows. you were not delusional for shipping byler and for expecting a great season,, but you have too much trust in the duffers' writing đâ
girl they're cishet racist homophic incel middle aged white men. your theory makes so much more sense than the actual ending but they're just too lobotomized to write something so good. don't get your hopes up for a second finale, this show is mainstream it's genuinely impossible đ im so sorry, at least that's what i believe
Me and the object im trying to pick up while my nail polish is still drying
The Duffers have absolutely zero understanding of the difference between an Easter Egg and Chekhovâs Gun
They probably thought Chekhovâs gun was an actual firearm and thatâs why Nancy carried so many of them
The way we were told not to believe in coincidences and then everything was either a plothole or a continuity error LMAOOOOO FUCK OFFFFFF
People REALLY should not have audacity because this is fucking TUMBLR why are you being homophobic on the gayest app in the world.
âIf you want queer rep go watch Heated Rivalry.â As if queer rep cannot exist outside of shows that donât revolve around a queer relationship. I fear that this is why representation mattersâŚ
The real slap in the face was Dustin saying âfuck the systemâ after the most generational queerbait possibly ever
stranger things season 5 volume 1 being so good there were ao3 plagiarism allegations... what a time to be alive
Duffers I'm in your walls....
