Brain storming for ludum dare 41
2 incompatible genres: gardening and metroidvania
Working on the weekly game jam with the theme: Balance. I’m taking inspiration from Danganronpa school and island mode where you have to balance everyone’s time and energy to complete tasks.
In this game, you balance your energy levels (cupcakes ‘cause I’m into this cute shit lately) while trying to restore an old house, explore it and talk to the paranormal tenants.
For this weekend’s game jam (The Heart Jam on itch.io hosted by uheartbeast), the theme is “scarcity”.
I’ve really been slacking on gamedev, and I think it has a lot to do with attempting to tackle a large scope game without really doing smaller games independent from the help of tutorials.
So, that’s what I’m doing for the Heart Jam. No tutorials; only documentation. It’s a small game about sharing your scarce resources (bed space, milk, etc) with your needy cat. For this mini game, you have to fight to keep your side of the bed from a small cat that can somehow take over all of it, leaving you with nothing but a corner of the mattress and scrap of blanket.
Based on a true story.
Pixel Dailies: Detective
Trying something a little different to get over this aimless feeling.
Second map and puzzle is about 30 percent done. My animation is still rough, so this will probably be redrawn in the future.
Working on the second map and puzzle.

Kimajo! Who gives one of my favorite effects. For the tree, I used the db-32 palette and followed twitch streamer LumpyTouch’s pixel art tutorial. I didn’t quite finish today (no water and no branch movement :c), but it’s almost midnight, so I’m about to call it a night.

I’m a little early, but it’s February 1st on the east coast sooo~ Madotsuki in the style of my current project... and Gudetama as Madotsuki because I am the wooooorst
Largest piece I’ve done for the title screen. It still needs some details and then animation. I’m... still not sure my taste level is... good? I really really wanted to use the dithering tool- clearly and perhaps against good taste, and my color choices still seem off. However, I am super happy with the outline, and I can always go back and try coloring again. Via steam, I have 70 hours on Aseprite, so I’d say this is around the 90 hour mark of learning pixel art (since I used gimp at first).
