[/ Pixel raised her stub for Silver to see. ]
The old one was 'Capitol contraband'.
Almost everyone is gone why do I still have to clean? Why can’t we have a movie night or something instead?
They don't trust us.
Why are you out of bed?
I don't remember...
But I didn't leave the room this time, I'm still in the doorway--They only said I had to stay in my room and I am. They can't get mad because I did what they said.
Hypocritical. Cowardly. Jerk. These were just a few of the words he had related to himself within the past few days of being in District Thirteen. Yes, he was busy getting antiquated with all the new technology set before him. But it wasn’t like he was locked in some room nonstop for those days. Booster was smart enough to know that was just an excuse he was telling himself. Whoops I have so much to do I guess I can’t go visit Pixel today in the hospital… And it was one of those things where the longer he waited, the worse he knew it would get, so the more he put it off because he didn’t want to deal with it.
Where ever he was, and whatever was happening to him Booster hoped Watt knew he was right about how much of an ass he always said Booster was. Letting out a deep sigh he paced in front of the Hospital entrance for a few minutes. Long enough that a guard asked him if he needed help or something. He politely said no and headed inside walking slowly, and looking around before he came upon Pixel’s bed. “Uh… Hey, Pix.”
Pixel had been leaning across her bed for hours, she wasn't entirely sure how long but it had to have been hours. She'd taken to stealing the last few pages of paper from her medical sheets and slowly, ever so slowly, folding them into intricate little figures. It wasn't as difficult as she'd thought it would be. It was still hard of course, folding with one hand, but using the side table to bare down on helped. She'd already made a clunky little bumblebee out of her physical papers and was in the process of making a flower from her pending psychological report. One of the medics had tried to stop her but another told them to just let Pixel do what made her happy and kept her from having screaming panic attacks.
The thing was, Pixel didn't--couldn't feel happy. Really, she barely felt anything unless it was just an overwhelming sense of dread and anxiety or depressing emptiness. The medics had babbled on about how her brain was no longer making it's own endorphins, that it might take weeks or even years to start back up. She understood from a logical level given how long she'd been partaking in her particular cocktail of self-medication. However, emotionally it just hurt that her mind was betraying her for trying to keep it sane. Still, it was a fitting punishment for a failing sister.
Her hand shaking slightly as she smoothed out a wrinkle Pixel didn't look back as she heard footsteps behind her. It was probably another medic with her meal--Which she likely would only poke at and offer to someone else--and thus wasn't really worth looking up for. She missed the avoxes, they had been nice to her and never got mad at her for not being able to eat. Besides, what was the point when her stomach could barely keep anything down anyway. Oh, if Drusus could see how she looked right now he'd have a heart attack with just how sallow she looked. He'd give her what she needed, he always did.
So engrossed in her thoughts Pixel was caught off guard by the sudden familiar voice from behind her. She whipped around in her bed, knocking her half finished flower onto the ground. It took her too long to catch her breath as her throat tightened. "B-Booster?" She wheezed as she scrambled to try and get off the bed, nearly tangling herself in her IVs. "You're okay?! Where were you?! No one would tell me where you were?!" She tried to breath as she shot off questions rapid fire, she'd been so scared that something had happened to Booster. That the medics were lying to her about him being too busy to visit, that somehow the Capitol had taken Booster like they'd taken Kel.
W—woah, okay, okay, don’t cry—please.
Look, come back to the medical ward, you obviously weren’t supposed to leave if you don’t even know where you are. I will do my best to try and find this Booster person and… and get you back your hand… You just need to wait, give our medics time, there’s a reason that they’ve kept you in care, we’re not the bad guys, we’re trying to help you.
Booster is my partner--He's the Victor from Three...I-I don't think he wants to see me but he could talk to whoever has my hand.
It's just a prosthetic and I told them there wasn't anything from the Capitol in it--I know, I built it. I could even build a new one if they gave me the supplies and someone to help. [/ Pixel rubbed nervously at the stump, wincing at how exposed she felt and how much her arm hurt without morphling to dull the phantom pains ]
If you are to be confined to the medical sector, to cover for your defiance is against my code as a soldier.
I-I don't know if I am--No one's told me anything since I arrived.
I don't even know where Booster is--I haven't seen anyone but medics and they don't answer my questions and they won't give me back my hand.
Please don't tell the medics I'm out of my room. I-I just--The walls are too small a-and my legs hurt from staying still for so long.
I-I'll go back in a little bit please just don't tell.
[Helena rolled her eyes and let out a sigh, as she grabbed the small waste paper basket setting it right next to the girl.] Germs spread fast in closed corridors.
[/ Pixel nodded slightly, still shying away from the woman when she came close to set down the bin. With her good arm she clumsily reached over and brushed the tissues off the counter and into the bin. ]
I-I'm not sick though, my eyes just won't stop watering. The medics said it'll stop in a day or so...Do you know where any of them are?
Keep in mind that we want everyone here to act like civilized human beings, not farm animals. So, please try to throw your trash into the garbage cans. It shouldn’t be that difficult. Our Janitorial team is not paid to be your personal maids.
[/ Pixel looked up from where she sat on the chair next to her bed. It was likely meant for visitors instead of patients but she had become restless and moved there. She would have liked to pace, however she was still tethered by her IV and unable to stray far. ]
I-I'm sorry.
[/ Pixel looked hesitant to speak to District 13 woman, unsure of why her tiny pile of tissues provoked such a response. After a few moments of silence she shakily raised up her stump from where it had been obscured from sight, nestled beneath the blankets she was huddled under. ]
I-I couldn't reach it, I didn't think it was so bad to leave it on the side table.
Did I Mention Not To Panic? || Open
When Pixel had finally awaken from her drug induced sleep her head felt like it was stuffed with cotton. However, she was more or less calm, which felt entirely strange along with her dreamless sleep. Normally her dreams were plagued with nightmares that her morphling helped her forget. Her groggy mind tried to figure out where she was, the bed she was sleeping on wasn't soft enough to be hers. Pixel frowned, she hadn't woken up someplace strange since Drusus had started sending her to parties with chaperons. What was going on?
Her muddled thoughts finally lead her down to one place, her sister. "Kel?" She called out quietly as she finally forced her eyes open, bright overhead lights making her head pound. She pushed herself up only to find herself unsteady, as if her prosthetic arm wasn't bearing weight for some reason. She pitched over sideways, nearly falling off the bed and yanking the IVs and monitoring sensors out of her arm.
However, that wasn't Pixel's concern, she didn't even respond to the blood steadily oozing out from the little gashes left from the IVs. All she could do was stare at the fact that at the end of her left arm was not her dainty little prosthetic but instead was just an ugly, scarred stump. She let out a panicked shriek at the sight, this time tumbling completely out of her bed in her panic, crashing against the floor with a loud thud. "Kelvin?!" She shrieked in panic as she half-crawled, half-stumbled towards out of the room, trailing blood in her wake.
She had no idea what was going on--Or even where she was, she hadn't seen her left hand anywhere in the room. Not that she'd exactly been calm enough to check for it but the fact that it was missing in the first place was enough to instill terror in the teen. "Drusus?! Booster?!" She cried down the empty corridor, still unfit to get bearings and push herself up from anything but a crouched position with her dominant hand gone.
Where? Oh Where? || Selfpara
"Where's Kel?" Pixel mumbled weakly, she hadn't slept in days and it had shown when Booster had gingerly taken her aside and explained they were going to get Kel. She hadn't even been completely sober, Drusus finally convincing her to take something. Though Pixel knew from the lack of fuzz in her head that it couldn't be morphling. Instead it just made her sluggish and quiet, her thoughts coming slower as she'd nodded and followed after her mentor, feeling entirely like a tribute again as she'd been carefully guided into the Hovercraft.
One after another Pixel watched as others were picked up, she was patient enough but as the hovercraft lifted each person up she became more nervous. Kel still hadn't been rescued. Was she just good at hiding? Pixel knew her sister had been quick to find somewhere to hide every time the arena changed. Kel was smart, she knew it could be bad to stay in one place in an arena like that but would that mean that Booster wouldn't be able to find her?
"Booster!!--Where's Kelvin?!" She called as she pushed herself from the chair. She couldn't actually get to where he was in the pilot's room but she could get to the door. "We haven't picked her up yet..." Her eyebrows drew together as her mind struggled to form full thoughts. What was going on? Booster would never just leave Kel, not if he'd taken her. Her hands roamed the door, looking for something to open it but all she found was a key-pad she didn't know the code for.
Her hands slammed feebly against the door as exhaustion started to take her. Kel still wasn't here, everyone that Booster told her would be here was here, except for Kel. Pixel had even been willing to give her district partner, her mentor, her friend the benefit of the doubt before she felt the hovercraft jerk into high speed. Pixel was a lot smarter than most people gave her credit for, she understood mechanics and machines on a level that only someone from District Three, born to tinker and toil, could.
Even if it took her a bit longer than usual, when Pixel heard the hovercraft whir into high gear she knew exactly what it meant. "B-Booster, why?" Her voice cracked as she asked, too tired to continue. She was so tired, everything just made her so tired. Her hand burned, her head was pounding, and Kel was gone. "Wh-Why? You said we were rescuing Kel?" All of the energy abruptly left Pixel's body as she slumped against the door to the pilot's room. Her arms went slack and she leaned her forehead against the cool metal, tears springing from her eyes.
"You lied."

When the screen had cut to Kel and the jabberjays Pixel hadn't left the room so much as been escorted out by a pair of tittering stylists. They understood her 'delicate sensibilities' and they assured her that no one would think anything of her leaving the room with some stylists to freshen up. Had Pixel been all there she probably would have been glad that she'd managed to listen through the jabberjays without screaming because she knew those screams it made.
How could they do that? How could they use those screams?
She could still hear the screaming echoing in her head as her mind supplied the images. Laying on the hard ground, being smothered by Him as she screamed and screamed and He bled out. Whimpering at the memory she brought her arms up around her head, as if it would stop the thoughts from forming. Where was Drusus? Where was BeeBee? Hell, where were the stylists who had left her in the hall? She didn't care who came she just didn't want to be alone stuck in her head.
A sob echoed through the hallway as Pixel slid down the wall until one of her high heels caught the edge of a tile and she toppled onto the ground. She let out a loud shriek as she fell hard on her prosthetic arm. Pain tore through her upper arm as all of the nerves she had left just below her elbow fired up signals of distress to her brain. The normal pain she dealt with roared into searing agony and she cried harder. Pixel rolled on her opposite side and curled up, cradling her delicate prosthetic, two fingers having snapped off now laying uselessly on the floor behind her.
[Llewyn let the girl cling to him, knowing very well the many times he had done the same — clinging to her in the night waiting for the nightmares to go away. He spoke in a calm voicing, waiting until the shrieking turned quieter.]
Don’t cry, Pix — she’s safe. She’s going to be safe. Just give it some time. But c’mon — you should take a break for now. You’ve been in here all day. You need to rest. We’ll get Booster in here and he’ll take care of her for a bit, okay?
I can't--What if she gets hurt when I'm gone and I can do anything to help her? Booster's smart but I get sponsors, not him.
[/ Pixel refused to leave the room for any longer than 15 minutes at the most, even her Stylist hadn't been able to persuade her into leaving. She feared the moment she left for too long would be the moment that Kelly would need her most. She took several shaky breaths before speaking again. ]
I can't just leave her.
Ropes are good. I taught her a few things about traps, some things she could use. I’m sure they’ll help. She could probably use some water and food too by now I’m not sure I trust anything she can gather in the —
[He glanced over at the TV as a rumble sounded and the whole arena shook with an earth quake. But… that wasn’t the biggest problem he saw as the mountain seemed to become more and more menacing. He stared at the monitor for a moment his brain wrapping around what was going on and he grabbed Pixel’s shoulder trying to keep his voice calm so he didn’t freak her out even more, but spoke urgently.]
Okay, send her a message with the sponsor gift, as soon as you can. Tell her to get as far away from the Mountain as she can. And keep her face covered. Okay?
[/ Pixel started when the earthquake rumbled through the room from the television. She tried her best to look and see what was going on but she couldn't see past Booster and then he was talking to her and she had to focus on his words. Booster was smart, he would help save Kel. ]
I-I can try that. P-People want to help Kel--Want to help me.
Hey Pixel — hey listen, she’ll be fine. Your sister’s got a good head. She’ll figure it all out. She’s okay, hear me?
[ It had nearly been enough to try to control his own nerves when the girl’s shrieks had set him on edge. She was younger like he was — a victor a year after his own and never meant to win facing the odds. It was all that he could do to try to comfort her. ]
Th-They'll find her and they'll hurt her! She's gonna be alone and they won't care that they're hurting her!
[/ Pixel wasn't really positive who they was herself, she knew that it wasn't Him, but they they just as dangerous. Still the shrieking finally lessened to a halt as she clung to the other mentor, now just keening quietly. ]
Hey — Hey, calm down, Pix. It’ll be okay. Your sister is smart. She’s going to adjust to this fine. [He gave an assured sort of nod, it was annoying but she wasn’t the only one who had to adjust to the sudden weather change.] If you think she needs anything we’ll send it to her, the Sponsors are already rooting for her to go far, they’ll help us out.
W-We can get her stuff--Y-yeah.
[/ She settled slightly after BeeBee had spoken, still shaking and not quite having all her wits about her but she wasn't hysterical now. Just teetering on the edge. ]
R-Ropes? Can we get her ropes? If we do she can hide in the tree--O-Or set traps.
No, no, no! She was doing good!
[/ Pixel was shrieking but she didn't care. Seeing her sister's work melt away to mean nothing was too stressful for her current, mildly withdrawal-ridden mind to deal with. Now her sister was out in the open, no weapons and minimal supplies. ]
