the scanning process did not end up as it supposed to, but it gave some sort of effect to them.
A reminder that the 24th of April is the day of remembrance of the Armenian genocide, which one and a half million Armenians were killed between 1915 and 1923. About two million Armenians were living in the Ottoman Empire at that time. Armenian people were subjected to deportation, expropriation, abduction, torture, massacre, and left in the dessert to die of starvation and dehydration by the Turks. Even today, Turkey refuses to acknowledge that a genocide was committed against the Armenians during WW1, and dismisses the evidence about the horrible massacre as mere allegations and often prevents efforts for acknowledgment.
This is literally the 100th year of Turkey denying the genocide of the Armenian people during WWI
rosie the riveter is war propaganda not feminist art
why not both tho???
did you really just ask why War Propaganda can’t be feminist
the idea that war propaganda cant be feminist is sexist. also what about rosie the riveter is sexist?? its empowering. its gives a message of equality on all fronts (even if that wasnt the intended message)
Rosie the Riveter was created in order to increase war production for WWII and is the definition of war propaganda. Rosie was used by the government in order to increase the morale of American women towards the war effort (and act as a call for their participation) to boost the production of weapons, planes, food, uniforms, medical supplies, etc. for use by the military. The economy at that time was a heavily militarized with the creation of the War Production Board, National War Labor Board, and the Office of War Mobilization and this was a way for the United States to maximize production efficiency and meet the high demands of WWII.
This is why it always strikes me when I see such a nationalistic figure like Rosie the Riveter used as a feminist icon when she is so much ingrained in the expansion and growth of the U.S. military empire and helped facilitate women’s participation in the modern military-industrial complex. And why I gave the side-eye when a picture of Malala Yousafzai’s face was drawn on top of Rosie’s face, when she has explicitly spoken out about the U.S. military many times. Honestly, if you find war/military propaganda empowering then I really have nothing left to say.
Science is not apolitical. Researcher bias is real and there are many instances where racist, homophobic, and misogynistic scientists have slanted data (often subconsciously) due to their worldview and bigots use this to justify their hatred. Science is an impressive tool for understanding the world but any tool can be misused and being a scientist does not automatically immunize someone against their internal biases or the prejudices that exist in their societal milieu.
