What's so bad about White Knight?
Even putting aside how its entire premise spoils have been a Harvey Dent story—right up to having Jack/Joker have a split face with both personalities at one point—it’s BTAS fan fiction by someone who has only ever cared about Batman, his allies, and just three rogues: Joker. Harley, and Freeze. It treats all the rogues as interchangeable and disposable, whereas they’re my main focus of interest. It’s yet another book centered around the awesomeness of the Joker and his relationship with both Harley and Batman. It perpetuates the common perception of Batman as a brutal thug who enjoys inflicting pain on others, and I don’t care about any ways that serves his overall arc. It’s largely carried more by its art than its story. And, fuck it, it really would have been better if it had Harvey and Gilda rather than Joker and Harley, but even that would have required several other changes.
But that’s just my impression based on the times one skimmed the books and from what I’ve heard from others who share my Batman priorities. It just bores me when it doesn’t actively irritate me. It’s familiar comfort food for people who only love Batman for a handful of the most popular characters. Meh.

Happy Holidays!
You might be frustrated by the library never having a complete manga collection on its shelves at any given time, but the 12 year old checking out 14 volumes of One Piece at once is vital to the library ecosystem. He's like the sea otter keeping the kelp forest from being devastated by an excess of sea urchins.
To those curious some other keystone library species include:
—the retirees who’ve read more murder mysteries than I’ve had hot meals
—the paperback romance girlies (gender neutral) who check out every single bodice ripper the second it hits the shelves
—the dads very slowly making their way through a ‘1001 movies to see before you die’ list
—the one-man criterion collection who checks out like, three movies per day and brings them back the next. (TV series are only a minor roadblock.)
—kids who like Minecraft
I've been both the manga kid and the paperback romance girlie before I moved to a non-walkable city where the library was a 10 minute drive from my house. Now that I've moved again, I have a cute AF library down the street once more where I can take out board games, science kits, and plants in addition to books, movies, and magazines. I'm about to devastate their collection of shojo manga.
“If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.”
don’t quote me on this but i’m starting to think that having a smug ironic detachment from all aspects of human experience might not be totally healthy
