Image description: a Reddit post on r/antiwork by u/Sea_Scheme6784, titled "Guess who no longer works at home."
The post says "Got pulled into a meeting today with my boss, and was informed that I'll be required to come back to site permanently even though I was hired as a work from home agent. She asked if I had any problems with that so I told her I don't have a car, and I live 30 miles away. Her response was to say "the company is not required to take into account your transportation needs."
Then she just hung up. I don't know what I'm going to do.
Edit: thank you all so much for the advice and kind words. I didn't expect nearly this many replies, trying to get back to everyone so apologies if I miss you <3"
Below is a comment by u/JetoCalihan, which says "Here's the thing. They have not formally fired you and are currently hoping that you will no call no show at the in office position so they can say you quit and avoid any fault. Write an email politely saying "thank you, but as I was hired for a remote position and see no reason I can't continue to fully fulfill my role and duties from home." Then reject any and all calls. Email communication only so there is a record of it (or if you're in a one party consent state you can just record the conversation). Force them to admit on record they are firing you or making your position one you can not work for purely internal reasons. This will at least secure your access to benefits if/when they do actually fire you." End ID
Hey do y’all remember when Boeing fucking killed a guy last year. And we all said “huh I guess Boeing fucking killed a guy” and then went on with our lives. And everybody knew that Boeing had fully just fucking executed a guy and nothing came of it. Like there was no police investigation no justice no nothing. Like literally EVERYBODY knew that Boeing had full on murdered a guy to silence him and there wasn’t any consequences for them. Kinda crazy.
and there was even less talk when openai did the exact same thing more recently
So for those who are, very understandably uninitiated on this story:
On 23 October last year (2024) the New York Times published an interview with former OpenAI researcher Suchir Balaji who worked on organising and gathering data for OpenAI until 2022 when he begun thinking about the morality of it. He eventually came to the conclusion that what OpenAI is doing blatantly violates copyright law and decided to leave the company altogether in August 2024.
After he came out with this accusation he was set to appear in court to testify against OpenAI’s data-gathering practices, something which had the potential of being a complete disaster for the company and the generative AI industry as a whole.
That was until 26 November, just days before he was due to appear in court, when he suddenly and mysteriously was found dead inside his own apartment. Investigators concluded that the death was self-inflicted, something which his family has disputed.
There was also “sign of struggle in the bathroom and looks like someone hit him in the bathroom based on blood spots”, and his apartment showed signs of having been ransacked for evidence: “The pin drive is missing. His computer was messed up.”.
Overall it feels pretty clear-cut what happened, that is to say that OpenAI had him killed because he was a legitimate threat to their business, indicating that they are fully aware that the way they’re gathering data is completely illegal.

not to suck my own dick but i’ve pulled myself out of some really dark places and i continue to do so
I think a lot of what pro-AI people are really wanting is stuff that already exists but they don't know it's out there like

don't know how to write a resume? templates
writing a thank you card or a condolences card or a wedding invitation? templates templates templates
not sure how to format your citations in MLA or whatever format? citationmachine.net

there's a million more like, guys, we don't need AI, we never needed generative AI
Some devastating facts about abortion rights in Europe:
Polish abortion laws lay out that the rights of a foetus are more important than those of pregnant persons.
In Malta, women are sent to prison if they get an abortion.
In Austria, abortion is written into criminal code - this means it is considered a crime if it is not carried out as by the law. Doctors in Austria use papayas to learn how to perform an abortion.
Women in Hungary are forced by the law to listen to “the foetal heartbeat” before they can have an abortion.
The current law governing abortions in Germany was accepted during the Nazi regime. It is still referred to as “the Nazi law” by some movements.
In Italy, 80% of doctors refuse to perform an abortion. Plus, the government is financing movements that enter abortion clinics and harrass women who want to get an abortion.
Abortion rights in Europe are fragile. Sign our initiative to make abortion safe and accessible to everyone in the EU.
You can only wear the two randomly assigned colors* for the rest of your life, ( trying to wear any other colors the items will change to one of the two other colors) how do you feel?
*Different tones/shades of the randomly chosen colors are allowed. Pastel, neon, etc. will also fall under the base color and are therefore allowed.
Spin the wheel to find out which colors you must wear
How do you feel/react?
This rocks! I already wear these colors everyday!
Not too bad, I can make this work.
This sucks pretty bad, but it definitely could be worse.
No! I hate this combo!
I would rather be naked or forced to wear a potato sack. This is hell

I am exceptionally lucky in that my parents never hit me, grounded me, confiscated my things, banned me from my hobbies or threatened any of these actions to make me behave as a kid. as an adult it has made me realise how very very long a road most people have to traverse before they can take a statement like 'no rule that must be enforced by threat is legitimate' seriously.
I really do mean this sympathetically. we are not well equipped as a culture to grapple with the implications of power and violence, because we are intimately saturated in it from birth. cruelty feels natural, and that's hard to unlearn.
a bunch of things that I know are going to sound really corny (which honestly I think is half the cultural problem - the idea that non-coercive parenting is touchy-feely, ineffectual or just kind of cringe - but that could be a whole other post)
the main thing was that they always explained things to me. if I wanted something I couldn't have, they explained why (from 'we can't afford that', 'it's bad for you', 'it's dangerous', all the way up to 'it's made by a big company that treats its workers badly, and we don't want to give them money'). If I threw a tantrum, they either waited it out until I got tired and bored or they redirected what we were doing ('we have to be patient and wait in line. if we don't wait in line, we can't go into the theatre. we can't wait in line if you scream and upset people. okay then, we're going home.')
beyond that, they always spoke to me like a full person. they asked my opinion on things and took it seriously, and asked me why as much as I asked them. apparently I had a phase as a toddler where I always wanted to be the first one on the swings / down the slide, and would throw almighty fits about it, until my mum took me aside one day and said 'why do you want to be first? are you worried the slide will get used up?' I laughed like it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard, and never kicked up a fuss about taking turns after that.
on the granular level, they focused on positives over negatives. My mum would draw little good behaviour charts for me, featuring e.g. me walking a long winding path through the woods with my soft toys. the path would be made up of, say, 30 stones, and every day that I was well behaved I'd earn a sticker on one of them. when I reached the end of the path, I got to pick a treat. something like a new plastic animal for my collection, or a day trip to the aquarium.
I do remember them sitting me down once and asking me to come up with what I thought would be an appropriate punishment if I ever did something really bad. I think my first suggestion was something like 'no TV', which was a real nice try because we didn't have a TV at the time. I don't remember what I finally decided on, it might have been 'no dessert for a week'. We wrote it down together and I signed my name, and they sealed it in an important looking envelope which they put in my dad's filing cabinet (for important documents). This would be unsealed if I ever did something Really Bad. the eventuality never came up, but the act of participating in the exercise kept me mostly on the straight and narrow. It's funny, the conceptual punishment itself wasn't even that bad. It was the seriousnes of the adult commitment I'd made to Behaving Well that did the trick.
When I DID do the standard naughty stuff, my parents would just sit me down and explain to me seriously why it was wrong and what impact it had caused for other people. They'd ask what motivated me, and why I acted on those feelings in that specific way. They would, of course, tell me they were disappointed. If necessary, they would tell me how things would have to change as a result of what I'd done. They were always, always open to hearing out my side of the story, and always, always took my feelings seriously even if they disapproved of my behaviour. they would ask if I was ready to say sorry and get a hug. if I wasn't ready, if I was still upset or angry, they would give me space in my room and ask me to come find them when I wanted to make up. and I always did, because I always knew they would accept it.

sorry your boyfriend split his soul in half. yeah he was trying to isolate the “evil” in him so he could be wholly good. no yeah it doesn’t work like that so he’s just punishing the part of himself that cares. btw we just saw into his mind and the personification of his own repression has your face. just thought you should know
I don’t care if I “pass”. I want to look into the mirror and see something that feels like me.
they’re banning cis ppl from sports after an investigation revealed they were annoying
bro i hate having creative fomo. i see ppl with comics abt their furry ocs and im like "i wanna do that too". then i see ppl making animated series abt their ocs and im like "i wanna do that too". then i see ppl making visual novels and im like "i wanna do that too". then i see someone using a certain art style and im like "i wanna do that too"
i literally see anybody doing anything creative and i instantly want to do it too but i never end up doing it and then i get sad that im not doing it bc i still see the other ppl doing it and im tireddddd LET ME LIVEEEE
this won’t solve every artistic impulsion, but if you’re someone who wants to do ambitious projects but struggles with completing them (or starting them), consider finding someone to be a Production Manager
There’s a reason why it usually takes so many people to make animations and games. Because doing collaborative work is hard and takes a lot of organizing to stay on track. A Production Manager is CRUCIAL to getting a project completed!! There are some artists that can handle production management on their own— on top of the art they’re already doing— but the vast majority of people can’t, and that’s ok!
Production jobs will oversee things like:
Creating schedules
Enforcing those schedules, and monitoring everyone’s progress
Keeping assets organized and file naming consistent
Tracking budget and costs, if applicable
Interfacing with every department to make sure everyone’s on the same page
Helping keep everyone motivated driven
I know plenty of people who are phenomenal artists, but end up finding they prefer production management! It’s a great way to stay involved in a creative field but not do the art yourself. Plus, having experience with creating will help your team feel understood. So if you like making spreadsheets and being organized, consider finding a project that needs help with structure!
you CAN do creative projects too if you want to!! I believe in you!!

Trump & Netanyahu really thought they can violate ceasefire agreement & plan to displace Gazans once they get all captives from Hamas & the latter would just simply comply.
Hamas is now postponing prisoner exchange until Israel delivers humanitarian aid according to agreement.
We still need your support and help. The occupation is still obstructing the entry of aid, especially to northern Gaza. Any small donation will help us restore our lives. Thank you. Donate here.
Please donate and share to help my friend Marah!❤️
I am begging the FDA to require that companies CANNOT just put "spices" as an ingredient but have to label the spices.
"Spices" can mean "this has some oregano and black pepper in it" or it can mean "this has cumin cayenne and paprika and if you eat this you will be sick in bed in pain for a week" for me.
Seriously, this is an allergy issue and a huge oversight on the part of corporations.
Require detailed labeling of spices used in packaged foods NOW.
Yeah okay, I'll reblog that!
I don't even have food allergies and I get annoyed when the ingredients list is vague
And stereotypical people are just like "why are you worried about it" like wtf is in this what do you mean spice
