This is called a Thorn Mellon and you can find it in the wild, because it grows on its own. It's in the family of cucumbers. But we found this in our backyard.
You can eat it when it is ripe and when it is not ripe.
That's what the insides look like.
So I tried it... and it tastes just like cucumber. I don't even know why they call it melon? It's just a cucumber with different skin.
Anyway, I hope you're as baffled with this finding as I am.
This is the germination process of Avocado seeds. These were taken out of the Avocados I ate. Clean it properly then place it in a nice pool of shallow water. These three shows the three different stages of what it will look like eventually.
That's what the new roots look like under before it produces the actual sapling. It takes time, sometimes alot of time before it gets to this stage. So be patient. Not all seeds are the same.
Not all Avocado looks the same. Some Avocadoes are so big they're the size of my head.
This little Avocado sapling wasnt supposed to be there. In this one large repurposed bucket, there are two Avocado saplings but I only planted one.
The little one was originally in the smaller water bottles and was accidently destroyed. I thought there was no chance for it to survive and then pulled it out to make room for a new sapling.
When I did pull it out there were small roots, and the seed broke in two. So I planted the broken seeds in the soil so that the nutrition could go into the soil.
I didn't expect for it to grow still. So yeah, the little one lived. A happy little surprise.
But thats not the most surprising story I have with dealing with broken seeds tho.
I had to share this little guy just chilling there on top of this make shift shelter. I would have never noticed him if he weren't there out of his element. Looks just like a leaf.
Wanted to take a closer look of what he looked like. Aawh just minding his own business.
Just planted this new Avocado sapling ❤️
Number 9 in the Avocado line. I waited for it to germinate for roughly 3 weeks and it finally came out.
Not all Avocado seeds germinate on the same time so each seed differs. This seed was from a wild Avocado.
I'll post my other stories around my other trees. It's amazing what they can survive. 😅
