circumspectoâ:
in the back of his mind, the burden of worrying over another clawed at him. though he wasnât one to immediately deny friendship altogether, he was a little more hesitant than most at serious bonds. but it was truly nothing personal, or against ouma. his past had shaped his current beliefs more than he would have liked to admit.
â arenât we all full of secrets, though? â with a shift, amamiâs head was turned to lock his eyes onto the profile of oumaâs face. his perceived characterization that had been covered by a thick veil had only heightened his words; only amplifying the questionâs intentions.
a brow raised at oumaâs shock. what, did he think amami would refuse the offer? if he had been the type to become so easily bothered, he would have been somewhat offended at the notion. but he wasnât, so he didnât harbor any hard feelings against the reaction.
  â hm? what do you mean,  â easy â ? â
This was... certainly a romantic scene, wasnât it? Laying next to eachother like this. Ouma could certainly imagine it in a romantic comedy or a drama, maybe... He has to shake the thought, though. He couldnât keep joking about liking the other student. He couldnât let him know it was real...
âDidnât expect you to agree. Not that Iâd respect you more for refusing... Maybe a conditional or something? It usually doesnât work. Kaede, Shuichi, Gonta... maybe. Less sure of the first two.â Shuichi may have been open-minded, but he was certainly the most skeptical person heâd ever met. Kaede believed in people extremely easily, and Gonta... wasnât the sharpest crayon in the box.
âBut- Iâm happy.â He grinned. âIâll be sure to make it worth your while! ...The few times you stick around, away. You should bring me back some candy next time.â

circumspectoâ:
he followed suit; the two of them laying side-by-side, staring up at the ceiling. his green eyes were fixated on a small dent, just barely noticeable to an untrained eye. heâd studied that dent on nights where sleep evaded him, where he couldnât seem to fall into the usual nightly routine. he hoped tonight would not be one of those nights.
but he didnât answer to ouma right away. his own thoughts and drowsiness had spilled out, though not verbally. there was evidence of a physical tension in his body - the way his hands clenched into a fist, or how his jaw was tight. it was hard to be pulled back into reality, though oumaâs address to the adventurer sure helped.
still quiet, he listened. amami was rather good at that. he didnât dare to interrupt, to break the flow of his classmateâs words. he wouldnât do that.
then finally, he let himself speak again,  â did i ever say lying was a bad thing? i canât recall - but i donât truly think that. and i donât think youâre a bad person for lying. everyone has their reasons ⊠just a part of life, i guess. â
no, ouma wasnât inherently bad in his eyes. as he had said, everybody had their own reasons for the actions they took. amami had his own, and while it would take a long journey of trust to break those walls down, he took the chance to impart some wisdom. to prove his point without actually proving it with an example.
a half-smile, tired, crept onto his features. itâs been long since he had someone who he could truly appreciate, to trust completely. he hadnât sworn it off, but he had bigger fish to fry than to make genuine, long-lasting bonds. perhaps he was in need of it right now. maybe ⊠he couldnât do things alone anymore.
â ⊠yeah. â a sigh pushed its way through, as if he was decompressing his body, releasing all of the tension.  â i can get behind that. â
He let out a relieved sigh when he heard Amamiâs head hit the mattress. Good. The world would be a much more boring place if he had gotten into some kind of accident due to exhaustion.
âHm?â Ouma tilted his head. âNah... You donât say much of anything. Full of secrets.â It was both alluring and frustrating. He couldnât be tricked, and it was hard to figure out his thoughts on even the most mundane things.
And- just like that? He was actually caught off guard by Amamiâs answer. He expected âon one conditionâ or âmaybeâ, but not yes. âWow.â He smiled, trying to hide his shock. âReally? Itâs that easy?â
circumspectoâ:
a brief glance, maybe even a longing one, was thrown at one of the maps. his brows furrowed, though refused to show any other emotion. the word  â obsession â had stung him, but he wouldnât relent to oumaâs prodding.
â we are ultimates, â he reminded his classmate,  â so i guess thereâs always a level of obsession to be devoted to one talent ⊠but i dunno, iâd rather consider myself to be more determined than anythinâ else. â
a sigh escaped him as he sat on his bed, exhaustion from his travels finally setting in. if it werenât for the two of them talking, he probably could have easily dozed off.
Amamiâs weariness is not lost on Ouma. It hurts him to see him in such a state, as often as he found him that way. He leaned back, flat against the bed, to encourage the other to do the same.
"Itâs upsetting, really... Some of them try so hard. They think that if they didnât have a talent, theyâd be worthless! Some even gossip, saying theyâre envious of the reserve course...â Ouma couldnât relate. Perhaps he would feel the same about some talent like photography or music...
It was obvious to him now that Amami wouldnât supply him anything unless Ouma was vulnerable with him. He paused, trying to think of something true, believable, and... something that couldnât be used to hurt him.
âYou know... A lot of people think I donât have any friends, that Iâm manipulative and untrustworthy... but thatâs just because they think that all lies are bad. There are lies that help people, make them feel better, even... save lives...â All types of lies he had to use more than heâd like to admit. Particularly the last one.
âNo one ever considers that. Maybe I lie because I care about people. If they ever do start expelling people for taking long vacations... maybe I could even lie on your behalf.â He beamed. Well- perhaps that was manipulative too, but... he would still do it, even if Amami refused to tell him more about himself. That was a freebie.
âThe truth is... Even if weâre just classmates, and youâve missed so many days... I still like to think that weâre friends. I want to get to know you better... if thatâs okay. If youâd like to be friends.â

circumspectoâ:
he gently placed the paperweight onto his desk, among the scattered maps he had left behind. honestly, he should probably organize those sometime soon, though couldnât be bothered right now. at least, not when he had company around.
it wasnât so much that he didnât trust anyone, he did put his faith into some ⊠but he wasnât the type to give it out so quickly and easily. trust required good relations and experience, in his eyes.
â arenât you the same way? â he retorted, rather bluntly but with a raised eyebrow,  â or would you so blindly put your faith in me? you said it yourself - iâm mysterious. isnât that suspicious? âÂ
of course, he was just grilling these questions partly out of curiosity and partly out of making his point of trusting someone without truly knowing them.
âWish you wouldâve gotten me a gift...â he mumbled. As nice as Amamiâs dragon hoard was, was there a point in it if he were never home?
âJust means you got a brain rattling around in there. Not like these other guys. So focused on their talents that anything else just falls to the wayside... They bore me. Youâre different. No one would even know what your talent was if you didnât tell anyone. Seems more like an obsession than your hobby...â
circumspectoâ:
swiftly, he moved the suitcase to his bed and zipped it open, though there really wasnât anything out of the ordinary at first - mostly clothes and travel supplies. even so, he fished out an object wrapped in some kind of thick, heavy paper. amami chose to ignore the first comment.
â was it really a lie if you merely did not tell neither fact nor falsehood, keeping it hidden to only yourself? â is what he would have liked to say. instead, he chose,  â thatâs quite the feat, then. you really hold me to that standard? do i have a reason to lie to you? â
yes. he had several, though of course chose to keep his lips sealed with that information.
finally, he unwrapped the object. it looked like some kind of paperweight, a glass one. although he wouldnât really use it for its intended purpose, he felt drawn to its simplistic beauty.
âBecause you donât trust me,â he answered easily enough. âOr you donât trust anyone. I get it. If you told someone what was important to you... then they could turn into a weapon. Riiight?â He huffed. âBeing so sneaky is just another reason why I love you soo much!â Seems Ouma still couldnât decide whether or not to shut up.
His train of thought ended as soon as his eyes locked with a shiny object. Pretty... People like Amami liked to surround themselves with pretty things, huh?
circumspectoâ:
[Â PLAYFULLIARâ ]
Ouma was expecting the other to run, to lock him out. Not that it would matter, as he could easily pick the lock, but he wouldnât do that to Amami. So, when the taller boy stood against his open door, Ouma was utterly confused. It might have even shown on his face. The Ultimate Adventurer was a complete mystery to everyone- even Ouma.
âYouâre not boring at all,â he mumbled as he followed Amami into his dorm room. âNot sure what you mean, saying something is up and inviting me in here. Super flattering, though.â It would be more so if he didnât have a habit of trespassing into other dorms here.Â
unexpected would be a great word to describe amami. while those around him always saw him as someone who embodied the  â go-with-the-flow â type of attitude, the past and future were often on his mind. and of course, his easygoing persona wasnât always present, which led to sudden breaks in his demeanor.
he suspected thatâs what had happened just now. the words had left his lips before he could fully process the weight of his words, or what they might have meant to ouma. even he was confused by it, but he guessed it was a product of his mind moving too quickly to catch up.
â i was itchinâ to get back in here before you interrupted me. strange how plans change so quickly just like that. â he got to work busying himself with scanning over his dorm, making sure everything was in its place.
satisfied with his look-over, he turned his attention back to ouma.  â just a hunch, but maybe itâs not somethinâ i should be concerned about. in any case, iâm all ears to whatever you wanna say, though i should honestly start getting all unpacked. â
âYou didnât seem to be in a hurry. Wasting your time with someone like me~â He hummed. Oumaâs eyes suddenly darted to the suitcase. What wonders could be inside? This was a perfect opportunity to learn more about Amamiâs life.
âI promise, I got nothing to say! Iâm an open book. From one liar to another... and you must be an even bigger liar than me.â He grinned.
circumspectoâ:
silence hung in the air as amami processed oumaâs words. he had to take a few moments, with an unreadable expression on his face, to thoroughly think things through. and even after a minute or so of stillness, he couldnât find the right words to express his emotions. not that ⊠he really wanted to, anyway.
he used the awkward moment to click the key into his lock again. slowly, he opened the door to his dorm and used his leg to all but kick his luggage backwards.Â
â my intuition tells me thereâs somethinâ up, actually, â the adventurer finally answered, taking a small step back,  â and youâre welcome to talk with me about it, but thatâs all on your terms. i wonât force you to do anythinâ, either. â
his body turned to the side, a gesture for ouma to enter his dorm if he wanted to, though amami certainly wouldnât hold anything against him if he declined.Â
Ouma was expecting the other to run, to lock him out. Not that it would matter, as he could easily pick the lock, but he wouldnât do that to Amami. So, when the taller boy stood against his open door, Ouma was utterly confused. It might have even shown on his face. The Ultimate Adventurer was a complete mystery to everyone- even Ouma.

circumspectoâ:
now that was certainly a call for him to roll his eyes at. he forced an inhale, though the act and his posture was a tad stiff for someone whose persona was relaxed.
not that he was UNCOMFORTABLE with flirting or compliments being thrown his way, he just didnât take them seriously, especially coming from someone like ouma.Â
â mhm, sure ⊠but what do you really want? â there was no way in hell that ouma could just be saying those kinds of things without expecting something, and was amami semi-curious to know what it was. surely he was only trying to butter him up, right?
âHuh?â He tilted his head. âI just really, really like you.â Ouma stated it with a straight face, as he did when he was being serious. Of course, he never expects anyone to believe a word he says. Could he truly use Amami? Even if he wanted to use him for his money or something, he never would. He loved playing games, so receiving money without earning it would be too boring for him.
âYou probably donât wanna be friends with a liar, though, I get it... Maybe stay away, if thatâs what your intuition is telling you. Iâd respect either choice you made.â Pushing people away was a habit. Even Gonta had tried to befriend him, after everything Kokichi had done to him, and he simply... didnât have the heart to involve anyone in his crazy, dangerous lifestyle.
sometimes i open up twitter and burst into tears laughing
circumspectoâ:
â how reassuring, â he commented in a monotone,  â so i see your organization doesnât take well to turncoats. i mean, i donât think you have anything to worry about ⊠so far, iâm just a neutral party. â
he put his hands up to frame the sides of his face, as if in a surrendering position.  â but hey, who knows? iâm still thinkinâ it over, arenât i? â
somewhat put off by oumaâs next statement, amami retracted his hands. ouma was quite the determined one, wasnât he? he had to give his classmate SOME credit for being so inquisitive, though had he ever heard of the phrase,  â curiosity killed the cat â ?
â ⊠i donât think it concerns you. â he winked and tapped his temple to play it off cooly.
âAw, man... I guess Iâll just have to hear your tragic backstory after you fall in love with me.â He snickered. âCharming and mysterious... You really do have it all. Thatâs why youâre my favorite!â
