[open] android!Sam
The battery connected to his wiring, SAM-001 began to come to life. His circuits started glowing as electricity activated his limbs and programming to start up.
His chest began to rise and fall as his cooling system worked to keep his hardware from overheating. It also doubled to make him seem more life-like, despite his chrome joints and visible circuits.
A faint whirring could be heard as his metal and plastic muscles went through diagnostics and he was soon ready to move. The robot’s eyes opened and glowed for a moment before changing back to a more human hazel. It seems that the scientists had put effort into every detail.
He sat up, swinging his legs over the edge of the table in preparation to speak.
"SAM-001 online. Motor system online. Touch sensors online. Ocular sensors online. Auditory receptors at 76 percent. Artificial intelligence drive online. Personality engine not activated." SAM recited. He still sounded like a robot at the moment, the final stage of activation not reached until his personality engine was turned on.
The moment the battery connected with SAM's chest, a series of whirring sounds started follow shortly by LED lit pathways skating across the surface of his synthetic skin.
"Nice light show," Gabriel commented drily to a technician, neither knowing nor caring that that particular technician had been responsible for the touch receptors in the SAM unit's hands, not the motors that housed his ability to move.
The android came to life right in front of his eyes, every bit of money and time his company had invested in this technological wonder paying off in this single moment. Around him the sound of shutters and the bright flash of camera lights fired off, documenting the moment.
Then, as SAM-001 sat up and moved to hang his legs over the table, a hush fell over the crowded theatre.
For the first time, SAM would speak.
Gabriel listened with a sinking feeling, his golden eyes flicking over face after face as he looked for the disappointment he was feeling to appear over the rapturous expressions they all wore.
"What?" he called out, voice loud. "Is that it? I thought he was going to be like a person."
A black and white clad engineer appeared out of nowhere to his left.
"Sir, SAM has just started up, we still need to activate his personality matrix and -"
"Well?" Gabriel waved a hand impatiently at one of the consoles. "Do it!"
Nodding, the engineer snapped his fingers at someone and they hurried to type in a series of commands before rushing over to SAM and pressing a cable into the expose circuitry on his chest. She skidded across the room on her way back to the console and called out in a clear but nervous voice -
"Personality matrix loading - at 12%. 18%. 23%."
And so on and so on until finally, with a triumphant smile, she turned to Gabriel and announced "Personality matrix at 100% and stable. The transfer is complete."
