Nightmares Pt. 4 by Dragees
“Simple. More a test really. You just have to survive five minutes like one of my collection without screaming or otherwise causing a disturbance and I’ll escort you to the oracle. She will have your answers.”
“Just five minutes? That’s all? What if I fail?”
“No tricks, I swear. And if you fail, you join my collection of pretties forever.” Luda smiled and blew more of those damned bubbles.
Emily looked around. The torments didn’t seem so bad. It would only for a matter of minutes.
“Ok, I’ll do it.” She said. Luda grinned even wider and blew bubbles in her direction. They circled her and nipped at her arms. Suddenly, the room shifted and they stood in a small cement room with a large tank of water in the center. He handed her a white one piece swimsuit and told her to change. She looked for privacy and he sighed and turned his back to her. She quickly changed. It was cold in this room.
“Here,” He handed her a full face air mask, “do you need privacy for this too?”
She suppressed a sneer and fitted it on. It wasn’t her first time in a scuba mask. Her family often took trips to more exotic scuba areas on their yacht.
“Good girl. Now, do not struggle because you will be safe unless you do. Any sign of distress and it will get worse. Understood?”
She nodded. With a flick of his hand she was jerked into the air and dropped into the tank. She tried to ignore the use of magic like this. She didn’t need to panic right now. The tank sealed and she focused on breathing normally. Then, the bottom of the tank opened up. From the bottle swam several creatures that resembled a mix between eels and worms. They were deathly white and had no faces or any signs of mouths. They instantly began slithering up her legs. She closed her eyes tight and focused on breathing. They were cold and slimy while also scaly like a snake. Creeper up her legs and under her suit; creeping against every curve of her body, She was repulsed to say the least. They stayed under her suit and wiggles around her stomach and over her breasts.
She reminded herself this wasn’t so bad, just revolting. When she opened her eyes she saw Luda on the other side of the tank smoking. This time the bubbles where mint green and fell to the floor instead of rising. As she was watch she felt a scratch and looked down. The worms had scales that now stood out like a pinecone. The end of each came to a point. As they twisted around more and more began to turn out like that. Her bathing suit ripped and she felt the scales scratching her skin. She refused to whimper or otherwise voice the pain. As they moved it got worse. They went faster, deeper, and over freshly cut flesh.
She bit her lip and tried to remind herself it was going to be over soon. The water in the tank around her was becoming stained faintly red from the amount of blood they had managed to extract from her dead body. She wasn’t bleeding but residual blood usually stays near the surface. Especially on the back.
Luda watched and blew more of his mint green bubbles. He enjoyed the cigarettes enchanted by the oracle, the same one mentioned before, especially the way they were enchanted. Like those mood rings so popular as a kid, they changed depending on the smokers mood. They were just more accurate. They changed not only color, but shape, consistency, and appearance based on that. His were now green. Calm and at peace. He didn’t enjoy torment; it just set him as ease. His suffering, past or present, was nothing compared to what these people are going through.
Meanwhile, Emily was having a harder time finding a happy place. By now the cuts among cuts had turned from individual pain to continual heat. Then it stopped. She opened her eyes again to see the worms snaking their way out of the top of her shredded bathing suit. They hovered in front of her face and she watched. Faces appeared on them. They had black eyes and small little slits for mouths.
One brave one swam face to face to her and suddenly kissed her mask. Emily was too shocked to move. Suddenly they were all kissing her mask and she just froze. They pulled back and huddled close together. Then they began to sing. It was simply random sounds but Emily found it chilling.
