エレン育ちの注意事項 by Lyy
Friendly reminder that Erwin’s character was based on a German general -Erwin Rommel a.k.a The Desert Fox- who disobeyed Hitler’s orders and refused to kill innocent people, war prisoners and civilians. Maybe now it won’t seem like such a good idea to compare a character, who shares traits with a national hero who tried to assassinate a tyrant, to Hitler.
tbh “our” Erwin almost seems like a foil to Rommel.
Rommel was particularly good at piling up victory after victory, i.e. gaining more advantage using whatever advantage he already had. Erwin Smith seems particularly adept at shouldering defeat after defeat with maximum damage control.
Rommel was a side figure in the conspiracy he was killed for; our Erwin planned his own singlehandedly (badpunbadpun) and survived.
Rommel’s weak point proved to be his family (the nazis literally came to his house and made clear they’d kill his wife and son if he didn’t kill himself), whereas our Erwin accurately avoided building a family not to have such a weakness.
ignore me i’m rambling but i wanted to get my thoughts out
Now we can ALL play eruri denial bingo from the safety of our homes! Everytime you get a disgruntled, rude anon telling you you’re delusional, just cross out the corresponding square!
The first person who shows me a bingo gets my sympathy and maybe a prize?
Tag yourself I’m “Erwin’s dick is too big for Levi” :)))))
Actual Nazi Erwin Smith
the fucked up thing about it isn’t just that the others don’t recognize levi’s pain or his deeply held emotions. they sure don’t, but eren DOES recognize levi’s pain. he just doesn’t care about levi’s pain.
eren sees this:
he SEES this.
and he not only understands it for what it is, he digs his nasty little fingers into the wounds and tries to bend levi to his will. pure manipulation.
he sees THIS:
he SEES THIS. and he puts two and two together. he understands, in this moment, that levi is emotionally committed to erwin. and he digs his hands in anyway.
what eren doesn’t understand is that levi’s emotional bias is not unfair. it just is. levi’s emotional bias fuels him, but it is not the driving force behind his decision. levi doesn’t JUST make this decision to inject erwin because he loves erwin. he makes this decision because it is the right one. levi loves erwin, not only because of his personal relationship with him, because erwin IS levi’s hope, but erwin is humanity’s hope as well. levi doesn’t have to sacrifice his feelings because they are in line with the objective.
what’s disgusting is that eren recognizes levi’s emotional bias, but prioritizes his own hurt feelings over levi’s. in this moment, he does not give one single shit about levi or his commanding officer.
of course, after all this i think we can say that regardless of whether erwin were to live or not, the entire agenda of the survey corps was doomed. they were never supposed to protect eren. eren was never supposed to have the coordinate power. they risked themselves for eren again and again, and it is clear now that eren has almost singlehandedly obliterated their cause.
eren’s mentality over everything being a strict dichotomy of wrong and right is set up for us right from the beginning. as one of the few characters with this viewpoint (excepting marlowe), he struggles to understand anyone’s actions, fails to view others as humans with their own personal battles they think are worth fighting for, and believes that those who wrong him/others should be punished unrepentantly.
uri asks kenny in one of their final scenes together, “the two of us were on an unstoppable path of mutual destruction. what was it that turned us into friends?” and the next question kind of hangs in the air: “was it violence?”
it wasn’t. they came together through violence, but it was ultimately uri’s willingness to understand and forgive kenny, to be kind to him, that allowed them to stop fighting.
the moment that violence began to brew inside the walls, it was from selfishness, greed, a lack of human regard, hatred, a desire for power and control, all of those things. it created poverty, starvation, genocide, and senseless death.
these themes are repeated again and again and again in this story, that everyone is fallible, everyone has a reason for their battles, but the root of discord within the wall population began because of a lack of regard for their fellow human.
we still don’t know what reasons the warriors have (i fail to see how killing so many people was necessary in the first place) but i have a suspicion that literally no one is truly right here. the only thing i can make sense of right now is that isayama is condemning their failure to approach each other as empathetic humans, and that exerting control over populations for the sake of power and control and selfishness will always lead to our doom. our failure to understand each other will kill us.
Their silence is quite telling. They refuse to talk. It’s a blatant and total flipping of chapter 11. In chapter 84 they said Arm*n could “do it” only because they didn’t want to to suffer and they did all they could to avoid making the sacrifice, lying included. They don’t believe he can either, and that’s why they don’t even try to deny the words of Hans, L*vi and Arm*n himself - they don’t deny that he’s not fit for the role he has just been forced to by themselves. They don’t even try to comfort or reassure him.
...
If, and I repeat if, I wanted to see a significance to current events in SnK’s recent developments, I would point out that it isn’t very cool when the competent candidate gets screwed over due to the choice of immature, selfish, or outright sociopathic people who hold their own satisfaction / expression of personal feelings higher than the wellbeing of the community...
...but I’m above that. Obviously.
(a.k.a. Isayama is a prophet of doom)
tfw irl levi looks like this
Isayama legit ticked every case on the “how can i make this chapter TEH SHITTIEST” checklist.
like even ARMIN CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD AND HIS HIDEOUS OLYMPE MAXIME BOB CAME BACK WITH HIM
IS THERE NO JUSTICE? even bald would have been better
To that fucking ignorant anon. Erwin is near 40 if not 40. In Survey Corps age that is a fucking super accomplishment. He's lived that long by sacrificing everyone but himself. That's why he should have just died. To do what he commanded all others.
I don’t even know why I’m responding to this… I’m just gonna tear your arguments apart one by one
“He’s lived that long by sacrificing everyone but himself“
Look at the picture here:
Those are Erwin’s stats from the Attack on Titan Guidebook. This is why he lived that long. Because he’s fucking talented.
Erwin himself also stated that he only made it this long because he wanted to prove his father’s theories right:
He had a course he has given his life to. He believes his father’s theories were right and that they are important for the survival of humanity. And Erwin has sacrificed his whole life for that. He enlisted the SC and gave up on the girl he loved, Marie, because he wanted to prove those theories right.
And you say he doesn’t sacrifice himself? lol, let’s debunk that further
Here’s Erwin dangling from the mouth of a titan, shouting to leave him be and save Eren:
Here he is bleeding out, again ordering them to leave him and save Eren instead:
Here he firmly states that he is sacrificing himself for the plan to work:
And here he comes up with the final plan in which he leads a suicide mission for the best of humanity:
Erwin is clearly ready to throw away his own life if that’s the best for the mission. How ever he also knows that he has to work as a commander, and it would be stupid just to kill himself lol
“That’s why he should have died. To do what he commanded all the others”
Do you know how the military works? It’s not fun and games. There’ll be sacrifices - you can’t fight a war without losses. Erwin is the Commander. Those soldiers he “commands to die” chose by them selves to enter the Survey Corps. Erwin doesn’t even try to manipulate them into it - he tells them hard and cold that they are gonna die sooner or later if they enlist the SC. But they chose it anyway. And they all follow Erwin because they believe in him and his course. Here’s a shorter version: all the soldiers chose to die for the course - they were not forced by Erwin.
lol again I don’t know why I took my time to answer this, but I just find it so laughable that people read this manga, but doesn’t fucking get it.
Things I learnt about Hajime Isayama from SnK chapter 83
his characters are children.
his western readers are children.
he hates children.
(or at the very least he enjoys making children look like utter morons, because that’s exactly what both sets of children are currently doing).
Casual reminder how great Attack on Titan really is:
• The protagonist isn’t a multitalent who can lean back and do nothing. Eren isn’t naturally gifted and had to work his way to the top. In the end he got ranked 5th best of his unit • The commander of the Survey Corps is non-binary. But Isayama has stated that Hanji/Hange’s gender is up to the reader to decide, and he instructed Shingeki no Kyojin’s marketing staff to avoid gendered pronouns. • “Humanity’s Strongest” isn’t a hella tall, ripped, young guy with an incredibly handsome face, but a 34 year old short man whose expression is stoic most of the time and who likes cleaning • 4 of the Top 10 ranked were girls • The person who “is worth a hundred soldiers” is a 15 year old girl of colour, plus Mikasa is one of the physically strongest characters in SNK, and no one ever questions her ability ‘as a woman’. Men are in no way superior to women and everyone is treated with equal respect. • Ymir and Historia are a canon lesbian couple that is not sexualized/fetishized in any way. Do you know how rare that is? • Reiner is canonically gay/bi (Manga: Chapter 38 Page 29) • realistic portrayal of trauma • gender-neutral uniforms • Yes, the second season took 3 years to make, but that’s because WIT Studios put a lot of effort into the animation. Just take a look at the detailed scenery and the lighting and wow
SNK is literally one of the greatest Anime/Manga ever and we all should appreciate Hajime Isayama’s hard work instead of sending him hate threats. ‘Cause y’know, without him, this fandom wouldn’t even exist.
Even the posts that praise SnK for its inclusiveness manage to forget about Erwin. Let me rephrase that for you: - the commander of the Survey Corps, Erwin Smith, is a disabled person. - the next in line of command, Hanji Zoe, can be seen as non-binary. Hanji's gender is stated to be irrelevant and can be therefore be interpreted as the reader likes.
once more unto the f****** serum
To contradict what i just said, though, for Levi to save Armin out of pity would be such a bad choice strategically. Much as everyone loves Armin, he’s crap in combat (2/10), pitted against another titan he’d be screwed over in a minute. Erwin, on top of being a more experienced, daring, and confident leader, scores a 9/10 in combat.
All this without restating the obvious, that Levi believes Erwin to be necessary to humanity (whether sincerely or being clouded by his affection), but he never named Armin as an essential asset.
This is not to say Levi won’t use the damn serum on Armin, but a lot of circumstances would have to align for him to do that, because if given a neutral choice between Erwin and Armin, Levi won’t think twice about giving the serum to Erwin.
For Armin to be revived via serum, Levi must...
be alive,
have gotten rid of all of the titans who were given the order to kill him,
have given up on chasing BT (or, most likely, run out of gas),
have a reason to go to Shiganshina before he goes looking for Erwin, OR...
be convinced Erwin is dead (and he wouldn’t go to Shiganshina before being sure of Erwin’s status, since he can get to Erwin on foot while he needs gas to enter the city. Grim as it sounds he’ll have to go back to the dead rookies and scavenge gas and blades from them, do you think he won’t come across Erwin - possibly via Miniba?)
be able to get inside Shiganshina with his gas depleted and all (the door is sealed, whatchu gon do??),
...and able to get there before Armin dies.
So yeah, pretty damn unlikely, on top of OOC.
BUT HEY,
Maybe Eren will snap Bert’s spine and feed Armin his spinal fluid, getting him to titandom without using the serum. That would be rad.
will this go down in history as ‘’the arc where everybody should have died multiple times but for some reasons only the redshirts did”, i wonder
Yes but when have Eruri shippers EVER said Eren or Hanji should die
Me @ALL the posters over the YEARS that said Levi hated Erwin and didn’t care about him whatsoever:
Viewpoints on Lineage in Attack on Titan
Shouting “I PROMISED HIM!” with a bleeding heart motif on his cheek, yep best bros Erwin and Levi, best hetero lifemates, such excellent platonic friends taken from raws + live tl (x)
