Gazing into each others’ eyes.. not awkward at all! Lol! But I’ll admit it, I kinda ship it.. 

Tanuma and Natsume are just too sweet together because of their similarities. They’re both sort of introverted, soft-spoken and attuned to the supernatural, which makes them both prone to getting sick quite often. Nevertheless, they manage to become friends and Natsume finally finds someone that he can open up to about the world that no one else knows about. It takes them a while, but Tanuma becomes one of Natsume’s “precious things” that he feels he needs to protect. Meanwhile, Tanuma feels the same way about Natsume - that he’ll help him in any way he can. And the more time they spend together, the more Tanuma starts to understand Natsume’s way of thinking, which makes things easier for Natsume to open up. 

Taking any sort of romance aspect out of it, the friendship between these two boys is indeed something precious. Tanuma has always tried to help Natsume - even in small ways like distracting the class president so Natsume can make his escape - and for Natsume to finally have a friend or two (Taki included) that understands him is just wonderful to see (considering his childhood, which always gets me crying). It’s so rewarding seeing these two become closer friends with each episode, but then again, I’ve always maintained that Natsume Yuujinchou is good for the kokoro…
