gameshow voice: is it gay subtext or are the writers just so catastrophically bad at writing female characters that the only relationships in the entire story that feel human are the ones between the men.
Riverdale Being… “Iconic And Beyond Reproach” [2/?]
folks, just remember that if you think I'm being too mean to Robby it's because I think he's such a rockstar and I believe in him so much
white man moments in the pitt's writing:
garcia's gut instinct being to defend langdon when trinity approaches her with concerns about him
male attending main character standing up for nurses
hospital director who robby gets to make snide comments at all season is a black woman in a pink blazer
capitalist character who wants to buy the hospital who robby also gets to dislike immediately and be passive aggressive towards is another woman
trinity randomly having beef with al-hashimi after baran makes one (1) neutral statement towards her
trinity choosing to bring up her distrust of baran around robby, a male attending
two male doctors break the rules to get justice for a teenage girl who needs an abortion, with the single voice of dissent being a black woman
women raising their hands during robby's feminist tirade (and everyone clapped)
baran thanking robby for his feminist tirade
sometimes i think about how samira's dad dying launched her career into an endless loop of being extremely thorough to prevent mistakes like the one that killed her dad -> being told she's too slow -> speeding up to be a good resident and ending up making a mistake -> making herself feel incredibly guilty for her mistake because in her head that means she's causing someone the same grief that she's felt since she was 13 -> deciding that she has to be better to prevent this from happening -> becoming more thorough to prevent mistakes -> figuring out that it's impossible to prevent mistakes and that any attempt is futile -> beating herself up over it and trying anyway -> ♾️
such a devastating loop. and she can't get out of it until she forgives herself and separates herself from the mistakes she's bound to make, which is only possible if she forgives the doctor that failed her father; which is also basically impossible because the grief and anger and upset that her father's death has caused, is the reason she got this far in medicine in the first place. she got into medicine to not make a mistake like that doctor and found out it's impossible. mysamira :(

girls who are feeling totally fine and normal
i think my favorite thing about trinity santos is how genuinely corny she is. i love how she unironically changes whitaker’s nickname from huckleberry to fuckleberry when she’s upset. i love the exaggerated hand gestures and the way she bows as she makes her dramatic exit saying, “so long, fellow losers”. she is so undeniably cringe that i can’t help but love her
season 3 opens. baran al-hashimi is in a coma from the car crash she was in on her way home after season 2. victoria javadi comes down alongside caleb jefferson for a psych consult. he asks her three question and she answers all of them wrong. trinity santos suspects all her patients are abuse victims and is proven wrong every single time. mel and trinity communicate perfectly without a single misunderstanding. dennis whitaker is a senior resident for some reason. perlah and princess, it's explained in one line by james ogilvie who's the new ed intern, both quit. jack abbot is in every single episode because they needed a second attending for the shift after baran fell into that pesky coma. in the last episode he changes into his streetwear. he's wearing a blue lives matter shirt. frank langdon accidentally shuts down pittsburgh's electrical grid because he was trying to turn down the lights for an autistic patient. cassie mckay's every line starts with, "my son." parker ellis spends the whole season looking directly into the camera and explaining what characters really meant when they said that thing and don't worry, they all love each other.
Sight & Sound's "Greatest Film of All Time" – 2022 decennial. After 7 decades of S&S votes, a series of walkouts at Jeanne Dielman's first Cannes screening, a half decade since Akerman's death, at last her film's legacy has aligned with its monumental contribution to the art of cinema

Heated rivalry shouldve been about 2 ugly old guys that play mahjong then maybe id consider watching it
i don't remember them playing mahjong but they do other old man things like going to the wet market together and drinking soup and taking walks. anyway go watch suk suk / twilight's kiss
"ok but where's the old chinese lesbians" go watch all shall be well. it's by the same director and the old chinese lesbians are also at the market
don't worry about me when I say this but I think in a way being hunted for sport would be a relief. my nervous system would be like, wow. finally, a proportional reaction
No, y'all, the solution to Mel's crash-out is not for Mel to get a romantic partner so that she doesn't feel left out. The solution is for her to ask herself why she got so upset about Becca's new boyfriend, and to unpack how her own struggles (caretaker's fatigue, isolation) have led to her not respecting Becca's autonomy. While I absolutely agree that Mel needs to start building relationships outside of Becca, I think that suggesting she get a boyfriend so she's "even" with Becca kinda misses the point of her crisis. Mel needs to realize that Becca is an adult who should be allowed to live her own life, without Mel immediately putting that life in competition with her own. And the solution to Mel's own social isolation isn't to get a significant other (one person)—she needs a community.
I find it so interesting that a show so dedicated to talking about violence against healthcare workers fails to say anything important about sexual harassment of those same people.
We are shown both Mel and McKay getting flirted with by patients and none of these occasions are shown negatively. Mel later calls the thief that shoved her off a stool a “nice distraction” from her deposition. Mckay seems mildly entertained by the flirty old guy and genuinely wants the injured athlete. Trinity mentions patients have flirted with her with no further comment. There are no complex feelings shown about this being a common occurrence for these women. And those are the doctors. Duke’s thing for Vivi is what the nurses get, and it seems the audience is supposed to find it endearing.
Except, there actually was a depiction of sexual harassment explicitly shown as being unwanted in the show. Of course, it was Robby getting verbally harassed by an old woman literally handcuffed to a wheelchair.
Apparently this show prides itself on its realism though.
