happy disability pride month to people who were/are abused because of their disability. my ex abused the fuck out of me specifically because i was too disabled to contribute to our lives the way they wanted. their abuse might even be part of why im so disabled in the first place (got shingles which can kick start chronic illnesses and was triggered by the stress i was under......because of the abuse).
i know so many people who were/are at the mercy of very terrible people because they literally have no other options. it's harrowing especially since ive been there.
if you're in this situation i hope so so dearly that you can get out as soon as possible. you deserve to be taken care of without having to fear the people who help you.
adding to this, happy disability pride month to disabled people with cptsd, regardless of what caused it. experiencing ongoing trauma every single day for weeks, months, years, that takes a massive toll on your body, especially physically disabled ones (ask me how i know). wether it's from abuse, neglect, poverty, being disabled itself and all the trauma that comes from that, anything at all, i hope you can soon be able to leave the situation if ongoing and have the opportunity to heal during and after
this disability pride month lets be kinder to folks with moral ocd . no more âif you really care about this minority , youâll reblog this postâ , âsomeone will die if you donât reblog thisâ , etc etc , and all other kinds of guilt tripping reblog bait . at the VERY LEAST tag your reblog bait so we can filter it out and avoid unnecessary spirals . itâs 2026 , we need to move past using guilt to get engagement .

this summer i recommend shower wipes or body wipes to people who struggle with hygiene due to disability, mental or physical. yes i know it produces unnecessary waste. yes thereâs the argument of âif you buy the wipes then youâll never shower,â but chances are most people who are struggling would Not Have Showered with or without access to wipes. i know it isnt a full shower but wiping yourself down can make a big difference in how you feel!!
along these lines you can think about buying mouthwash and getting any kind of friction at all on your teeth when itâs too hard to brush fully, dry shampoo if itâll help keep your hair less oily when washing your hair is overwhelming, etc. you deserve easier ways to care for yourself and feel clean. also remember you are not a failure for struggling with hygiene even if society tells you otherwise!
you know what, "because i'm in pain" is a good enough reason as any. why do you want to take meds? in pain. why do you wanna cancel? in pain. why didn't you want to talk? in pain. yeah don't be a jerk to everyone you meet and expect them to welcome that. but why were you being a jerk? in pain. it's a reasonable explanation. being in pain should be enough of an explanation. it should be considered an immediate problem that we try to fix as soon as possible instead of expecting the vast majority of people alive to just get on with it.
youâve been moving around a lot? FATIGUE!
youâve not been moving around? FATIGUE!
youâve been standing? FATIGUE!
youâve been sitting? FATIGUE!
you are simply conscious? FATIGUE!
youâre sad? FATIGUE!
youâre apathetic? FATIGUE!
youâre happy? HeadacheâŠAND THEN FATIGUE!
Idk what person with chronic illness needs to hear this, but you can do things to make your responsibilities nicer for yourself. You can get an ice cream after a blood draw. You can sit down for tv time after an injection. You can pick out the bandaids that have cartoon characters on them instead of the plain ones. Being an adult doesnât stop you from benefiting from encouragement. Go for whatever fits with your routine/abilities/budget and makes life a little better. A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down etc etc
Chronic illness sucks because youâll catch yourself thinking shit like âI wish it was possible to bathe regularlyâ or âthey should invent a digestive system that doesnât hurtâ and then realise⊠thatâs actually the case for most people. Thatâs the norm. Not only do most people have that, they donât even think about it
[clearly experiencing symptoms of mania] oh i get it! im finally normal!
partially-managed mental illness is so fucking funny i'll be sitting around doing my job and suddenly think "wow i hate myself" and immediately get confused because, like, that's not TRUE! i love myself so much. who are you to talk to me like that
USE MY NEOPRONOUNS IT'S NOT THAT HARD!!!!!! (it/its, chomp/chomps, thing/things by the way!! Thank you ^_^)
Use them :).
