I strive to be the kind of person that’s fun to play games with, not the kind of person who’s good at games. There is a VERY massive difference there. Friends who are good at games are meta-gaming and telling you what to do and how, it’s not fun. People who are FUN to play with are happy to play the game horribly inefficiently and just fuck around without compromising the integrity of the game itself.

IE: I played a lot of Schedule I in its peak popularity, and it only stopped being fun for me when my friend kept trying to go for the most optimal route instead of what was actually fun for the game. I don’t want to dread playing something because someone is gonna tell me I’m doing it wrong, it’s a game.
