you are punished for going on psychiatric medication and you are punished for not going on psychiatric medication. if you are punished either way you might as well do what you feel is right

Intellectual property laws used to mean something when it targeted the consumer.
Now the venture capitalist steals the IP to make derivative AI bullshit.
To that end, here’s an even more interesting question around distillation: why exactly is it bad? After all, what are large language models but the distillation of all of the knowledge on the open Internet, scraped by the frontier labs and distilled into the models that are themselves being distilled? Who is exactly being wronged here?
nonsense the whole way down

Fanart for a REALLY good Caine centric fic called Small Gods. This convo in chapter 7 is SO good, like I could genuinely see this happening in the show! its by @crimes-wears-goggles so go show some love to her and her fic!
I gonna do the second half of this convo too just cause I'd hate to leave it here :)
"That's the real torture, you know" says the guy who no longer feels pain, doesn't remember dying, and just watched Klaus get actually physically tortured WHILE going through withdrawal and obviously being plagued by constant other ghosts.
I know Sparrow Ben is a dick, but I think Ben Prime is too, y'all.
actually criminal that there was never a scene where dean was cold and cas gave him his trench coat

Okay but like imagine.
The night after Mary gets whammied back to life by Amara, Mary and Sam run into each other in the bunker’s kitchen, and Weird Winchester Smalltalk ensues over a pot of stale coffee.
Mary: So, um… Seems like you two have really settled down here in Lebanon.
Sam: Uh, yeah. Something like that.
Mary: I mean, you’re both so… Big now. Grown. And Dean is… Well, it’s hard to wrap my head around. Not every day do you come back to life and learn your son has an angel for a boyfriend.
Sam, spitting out his coffee: Um, what??
Mary, oblivious: I mean, don’t get me wrong—it’s nice to see Dean… happy with someone. It’s just the whole Angel of The Lord thing that sort of makes my head spin.
Sam: Mom. Dean and Cas aren’t together.
Mary, frowning: Oh…?… Do they know that?
Sam, dragging a hand down his face: No. No, I don’t think so.
—
Alternatively, approximately five minutes after Cas’s ‘DEAN! You didn’t blow yourself up!’ hug, Mary corners Cas in the bunker.
Mary: Listen here, buddy. You break his heart, and I’ll whoop your feathered ass—angel or not.
Cas: What’re you—
Mary: I mean it. That boy’s got trust issues deeper than the Mariana Trench, so if you don’t watch yourself, I’ll take that angel blade and shove it where the sun don’t shine.
Cas, sweating: Yes ma’am.
I hate how Sam always gets sidelines in favor of giving Dean the spotlight.
Sam clearly connected with Missouri on a deeper level, she sensed his psychic abilities and treated him with genuine warmth and understanding. Yet when the show brings her back later for that farewell moment, it’s Dean who gets the heartfelt goodbye. Why does the more distant brother get the big emotional payoff?
It’s the same pattern with Jack. From the moment Jack was born, Sam was the one who was patient, supportive, and truly understanding with him. He defended Jack when Dean wanted nothing to do with him and saw him as a threat. Sam acted like a real parent (mother) — encouraging, teaching, and believing in Jack’s potential to be good.
Dean, on the other hand, was cold, distrustful, and outright jerkish toward him. Yet the series and fandom still push the narrative that Dean is Jack’s supportive father figure, giving him the "proud dad" moments while Sam’s profound, more consistent bond gets downplayed.
Sam has always been the one who loved dogs. Dean openly wasn’t a dog person for most of the series. But when they finally get a dog in the final season, Miracle somehow becomes "Dean’s dog," with the sweetest, most affectionate scenes focused on Dean hugging him and letting him in the Impala. Sam gets far fewer meaningful moments with him, even though it would have fit Sam’s character so much better.
Over and over, writers erase or downgrade Sam’s deeper connections and strengths so Dean can have the big, crowd-pleasing, tear-jerking scenes.
Sam builds the real, patient relationships but Dean gets all the credit. It’s frustrating — Sam deserves better, his bonds feel more earned and consistent, yet the show keeps centering Dean for maximum emotional impact and to please the majority of fandom.
John is obviously pissed at Sam for not killing him and therefore Yellow Eyes, but I think its really interesting how he seems more surprised than anything. Like if it was Dean he would be straight pissed, But here, he looks more surprised that Sam prioritizes family over revenge, when he left his family for college. He might be surprised that Sam doesn't resent him as much as he assumes, which is why he's not that mad. John takes it all out on Dean because he knows that he will always be loyal (presumably), and doesn't on Sam because he already lost him once. Just a thought, but this was interesting on a rewatch.
