HEAVY METAL: • Delivering coils of steel weighing up to 25 ton (50,000 lbs 22680 kg), now that's heavy metal. • Absolutely fascinating to watch the remotely operated cranes reach over and move these heavy coils. Illinois Route 66 • When I was a boy I dreamt of one day traveling Route 66 in its entirety from Chicago to LA. I thought it would be a most grand adventure to experience firsthand the Mother Road as it is often called and to drink in all of that history and Americana. Now of course, in my adulthood I have driven Route 66 all, or in part several times but it never stops making me smile. Middle Of Nowhere, Utah… yup, it's an actual place. Actually it's pretty close to Brigham City, about 30 minutes north of Ogden. I guess my next stop will be the Point Of No Return, Florida - or Nogales, Arizona. Yeah, that's it, we're heading to Nogales. Tomorrow is another day and another several hundred miles. Settling in for the night: • There's an interesting phenomenon that occurs at the truck stop every evening just around sunset; the trucks come home to roost. Fuel islands fill up, wayward giants start streaming and start jockeying for position to stable up for the night. If you ever want to know just how many lonely men and women there are patrolling the freeways at any given moment, just stop off at you local truck stop and then multiple the trucks you see there by a magnitude of hundreds of thousands.
