I feel like teaching is such a huge responsibility because they look up to you and you’re essentially helping them shape not just their english skills, but also their views on socio-cultural and economic events. 

Today there was a poem about an Aboriginal woman’s experience of European colonisation and for the class discussion, I asked them if they believed we still treat Aboriginal people badly and they all said no, we’re all equal now and it just hit me a bit how they get so much of their ideas/knowledge government/education system that is doing nothing to reconcile the struggles they placed on the Aboriginal community. I didn’t even have time or the position during class to go into depth about what the government is really like but it really sucks that this whole system benefits so much from this shitty situation. 

This one student also believed that we’re more equal because refugees stopped coming into Australia and I was so shocked by what he was trying to convey. Thank you Australian government/media for portraying this idea into children, who don’t even fully understand the situation, but are already picking up your messages.

im really proud that ive done so much better than i expected this semester??? 

like 2 high distinctions (my first ever!!) from one unit and getting 80% - 95% in assessments from a unit i thought i would struggle with

and i got a pay rise from work and students get excited when i tell them im substituting for their class

I see C about once a week and leaving sometimes sucks but I always play some cool tunes on the drive home and have a nice shower and fall into bed and I miss him but I'm content with the time we shared and content to be in my own space again. We always do our own thing throughout the week but as the end of the week draws closer, we are excited by the prospect of time together and Idk basically we've been together for about a year now (don't have an exact date). Even though we met when I was really struggling, things between us turned out better than expected. I love how we work and I love who I am, who he is, and how we inspire each other to be the best we can be.
