and more years and trips to come pleasee :)
reunited after nearly 3 months of spending summer apart!
summer so far in +852
[Tracy’s story]
When I first came back from Europe, I found Hong Kong extremely boring. There weren’t cool galleries with contemporary art exhibitions, no free cheese and wine tasting, no weekend beer music festivals. So, I’ve decided to make to make my summer an atypical one by subscribing to different blogs and lifestyle newsletters, hoping to get inspired and be involved in cool activities. And yep, so far it has been a good summer trying out new restaurants, going to free movie screening (and even randomly popping up in a zara recruitment interview lol)
Who knew freebie and discount hunting could be so fun and rewarding?!
-FOOD-
ChaChaWan 50%off dinner menu! So Minnie, Eos, Mal and I went to try this new Isaan/Thai restaurant in Hollywood Road and man, we were SO impressed by the cool decor. With bright green Chinese foldable gates that lure you into the place, the interior of this 2-floored restaurant is original with old Chinese posters and murals displaying the old Hong Kong (kinda like G.O.D). The entrance of the place was decorated with a green cart full of herbs like bright red chili and made us anticipate tasting authentic Thai even more. When we were finally led upstairs to our table, we couldn’t hide our excitement and glee to see the cool Chinese/ Asian paintings and artworks displayed on the walls.
Okay, to the food. They were SO SO GOOOD. I mean, I don’t think I have really tried real authentic Thai food before since I never went to Thailand. But these spicy dishes were all a huge delight to my taste buds. We tried the papaya salad with crispy pork, grilled chicken skewers and the Salt-crusted whole seabass stuffed with lemongrass, pandanas and lime leaf, cooked over fire, with a green chili dipping sauce. The fish was simply heavenly. We dug in like barbarians and ate everything edible off the bones lol. Dessert was good as well, I really enjoyed the passionfruit sorbet cause there was nothing artificial.
-Zara Pop-Up Talent Tour-
This has been the most hilarious and interesting 2013 summer incident so far. Attracted by the word “gift”, I was misled into thinking that there would be freebies in this pop-up zara fashion store. So I shared this with Minnie and we were so enthusiastic about this visit as we walked up Hollywood Road. Much to our surprise, we were welcomed by two Zara staff members who handed us forms to fill in as they are actually recruiting staff members. We originally came for freebies and to look around but we eventually got persuaded into filling in the forms and going to an interview held upstairs. As we walked up the stairs, we already knew that the whole thing was a mistake. People came here with CVs, legit passport photos and are ready to get interviewed. Minnie and I were laughing and smirking our way up the stairs, knowing that we were here for fun since we have literally got nothing to do in summer. This spontaneous and random interview seems totally absurd, I mean, I never planned on being a sales in Zara and so how can I tell you why I am interested in joining Zara?? Nonetheless, It was a really interesting experience and I guess it’s also an opportunity that doesn’t come often. We sat in semi circle with four other applicants who were clearly more psychologically prepared than us and a group interview was conducted. We were first asked to introduce ourselves and then three situation questions were asked. My English/ Putonghua abilities as well as my quick wit were put to test. I have to admit that this was my first proper interview for a legit job and I might not have given the most quick-witted or appropriate answers, but it has been a rather rewarding experience as the Zara staff shared some “model answers” after each question.
We were extremely disappointed cause we didn’t get any freebies after the interview and Minnie was blaming me for tricking her into coming. However, we both agreed that this spontaneous interview might come in handy in the future and who knows, we might really get employed by Zara! Fingers crossed! X
-FREE movie screening and Cooking Demonstration- (to be cont’d)
"Made in China"
I came across this really nice Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag in Brussels. 係—個好啱款好啱大細又好啱顏色嘅皮袋. Wavering between hopes and fears, I unzipped the bag and pulled out the label tag. It read "Made in China". I was traumatized. 我買野, especially 喺外國旅行買野有一個宗旨, 就係一定唔可以係Made in China. I mean, 你洗咁多錢買張機票飛到黎歐洲, what's the point of 買番大陸同胞製嘅products!? Dear friends, 或許你無留意到, 但我買親返香港嘅手信or postcards 都一定係made in the place I was visiting, or at least 係 made in Mexico or Morocco, 而絕對唔會係"Made in China". 喺呢一刻, 我突然有一種莫名嘅loathing for globalization. 如果有機會要再寫LS essay, 我大概會put this down as my last point in 'disadvantages of globalization': "Under globalization, the production line of various European brands were relocated to Mainland China, making it more difficult to purchase authentic good quality European made handbags in Europe." 我忍痛放低咗手上嘅perfect except "Made in China" handbag, couldn't help but wonder- What would Daisy do? 雖然我唔知佢係咪都有呢種堅持, 雖然我這原則聽起來好似只係虛榮心作崇, 但我可以話你知, 我這購物原則令我花錢花得很心安理得. --

Hello.
So. This is it. The joint blog of Tracy Wu and Jaime Yeh is finally coming true.
We came up with this idea of having a joint blog documenting our travelling stories and summer adventures since the two of us will be spending our summer in different parts of the world and we were much inspired by the bloggers daisy wong and panpansang lol.
