the ONE BIG THING THEY DONT TELL YOU WHEN YOU START WRITING is that you gotta be OKAY with deleting and editing. Not just prepared for it, not steeling yourself enough for it, you have to be OKAY with it. It has to be NORMAL. You have to go into it thinking that EVERYTHING is a rough draft that will be part of a CONTINUOUSLY EVOLVING piece.
And I mean this in every part of writing.
Iâve spent HOURS stuck on sentences I didnât want to revise, chapters I didnât want to admit didnât fit into my narrative, even whole PLOTLINES that I had previously mapped out.
The point is, if youâre stuck because it feels wrong, it feels wrong for a reason.
and as a writer, you have to be used to the thought that not every idea needs to be there. because thatâs how you end up refining the story you want to tell.
The most frustrating experience as a writer is having a clear vision in your mind of the story you want to tell but being too afraid to put pen to paper for fear of failing to do the story justice. Iâm so scared that my actual execution will fail to meet my expectations that Iâm paralysed to even start.
Writers say "i'm not writing right now" like that means anything. You are always writing. You are writing at dinner. You are writing while someone talks to you about their holiday. You are writing in the queue at the post office.
Not writing it down is not the same as not writing. The writing happens first. The document is just where it lands eventually if you're lucky.
Stages of writing a novel: (1) this is a great idea (2) this is a good idea (3) this is an idea (4) what even is this (5) i have made a terrible mistake (6) okay there's something here (7) this is actually good (8) this is too good, something is wrong (9) wait did i accidentally write something real (10) close laptop. do not think about it for three days. open laptop. start over from stage 4.
crush totally wasn't impressed by my miraculous flying machine fml
oh my god i just saw her get onto an airship with a woman whose tophat has at least twice as many sprockets as mine. i will be killing myself with an elaborate pneumatic pistol tonight
call me crazy but i think public transportation should explicitly also be for actively drunk/high people. so they donât, you know, drive under the influence.
i literally donât care how afraid you are of drunk people. if theyâre behaving well enough then thereâs no reason to kick them off the bus.
if you canât recognize itâs better for society for drunk people to have a way home that doesnât involve them driving and potentially getting people killed then you just kind of suck actually.
F griffguts where Griffith is very affectionate and touchy with guts and guts just thinks this is how girls are and tries to play along cause sheâs never had a female friendship before, and pretty soon sheâs following suit by reaching her hand up Griffiths back and pushing her hair back to hold the back of her neck.
u can be boiling alive in your mind for months and then on a random tuesday ur head gets so clear and life is worth living again and you're like damn what was all that about then
The thing is that Uika Misumi actually didnât do anything wrong. Like despite how obsessive she is and how much she hates herself for having the feelings she does, the âsinsâ sheâs committed are being born and being traumatized from a rough upbringing. She may have imagined throwing Mutsumi down the stairs, but she didnât do it. She may have desires to lock Sakiko up in the loft in her apartment, but she didnât actually do it, and in fact she channeled her unhealthy desires into very thematically fitting lyrics for her visual kei band. Sheâs convinced that sheâs the reason Sakikoâs dad took the fall for the Togawa group, which ended up causing Crychic to disband, and therefore thinks sheâs the one at fault for ruining Sakikoâs life, but even if Sakikoâs dad speaking up trying to get her recognized as part of the family was the reason for it all, itâs not Uikaâs fault that making her existence known to her brother in law caused that chain of events. Sleeping with a pillow wearing Sakikoâs stage outfit was a little weird but not necessarily harmful. Okay Iâll admit that maybe stealing her sisterâs name and pretending to be her is a bit questionable. But like, the way she acts and thinks of herself (and the way people online talk about her) would make you think she killed someone or something equally horrible, when in reality she didnât really do anything that actually harmed anyone! And everything she did do pales in comparison to the harm that was done to her by the oppressive family structures she was unintentionally born into. To the people in her family around her she is a mistake and a reminder of past sins, but she herself is just a poor girl who has internalized the idea that she is a disgusting irredeemable sinful human being simply because she was born and because she fell in love with the first person who ever made her feel seen and wanted.
You make me so warm~
