This is an artwork I did a few months ago of Rookidee :)

This artwork was me messing around to try and see if I could create an artwork that could go on a pokemon card!

I wanted to practice for next time they do a pokemon card artwork contest, so this was my attempt at a possible Rookidee card artwork.

This artwork is based on the Shima Enaga, or long-tailed bushtit, a species of bird native to Japan; specifically around Hokkaido.

During their fledging season, it isn’t uncommon for several young chicks to all huddle together on a branch; this is what these birds are famous for, since it gives them the appearance of Dango!

I wanted to give a shot at a scene where several Rookidee, although not based on the Shima Enaga bird, could be seen doing something similar. This is what I came up with!

I honestly ended up being really happy with the result, and I think that it could look really nice on a real Pokemon card. I intend to keep practicing, and one day, if I’m lucky, maybe some of my art will be on a card one day!

I tried a different style than what I usually do! I normally render a lot, but this time I went for flatter colors.

I kept the linework messy and unpolished because I wanted it to feel more organic and loose.

Trying different styles like this helps me grow and understand my creative process better, even when I don't understand what I'm doing most of the time.
