“Indica, would you do me the honor of being mine?” he asked, his voice sincere and steady. “With everything going on, I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I do know I want to be with you, no matter what happens.” His calloused fingers traced comforting circles on the back of my hand, and I couldn’t help but smile at his vulnerability. It was a side of him I knew he didn’t show often—and I would’ve fully believed it if it wasn’t for Scott.
Even though Logan seemed perfect in every way, Scott's earlier comments still lingered in my mind, like an annoying echo I couldn’t silence. Scott had warned me that Logan wasn’t the type to settle down—that he had a reputation for being a bit of a womanizer. And as much as I didn’t want to believe it, especially not with how sweet and genuine Logan had been with me, I couldn’t help but wonder if there was some truth to Scott’s words.
Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t even realize I hadn’t answered Logan until I felt him gently squeeze my hand. His eyes were full of a vulnerability I rarely saw in him. “Well…?” he asked, his voice tinged with nervousness.
I couldn’t let Scott’s words ruin this moment. Logan was right—we had no idea what tomorrow would bring, and I didn’t want to miss out on something real because of a doubt planted by someone else. My eyes met his, and I nodded, feeling the weight of the decision lift as I did. “Of course, Logan. I’d love to,” I said, a giggle escaping my lips as his face lit up with a smile.
“C’mere, darling,” he murmured, his arms wrapping around my waist as he pulled me down to his level. His lips met mine in a kiss that felt warm and secure, the kind of kiss that made all my worries fade away. My hand found its way to his face, my fingertips brushing against the rough texture of his beard. When he pulled away, his grip on me softened, but his eyes held the same intensity, the same promise that had been in his voice just moments ago.
After the kiss, the energy between us softened, and the room felt warmer, more intimate. Logan shifted, propping himself up on the pillows, and gently pulled me into his side. I nestled against him, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my cheek, a comforting contrast to the adrenaline of the day.
We stayed like that for a moment, the silence between us filled with unspoken words and a newfound closeness. It was as if the outside world had faded away, leaving just the two of us in this quiet space. I could feel the weight of the mission slowly lifting off my shoulders, replaced by the warmth of his presence.
“You know,” Logan began, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through his chest, “it’s not often I get moments like this. Peaceful, I mean.”
I tilted my head up to look at him, my fingers absentmindedly tracing patterns on his arm. “You don’t get to just relax often, do you?”
He shook his head, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Not really. There’s always something going on, something that needs handling. It’s why I try to make the most of times like this.”
His words hung in the air, a reminder of the life we both led—one filled with constant danger and uncertainty. But there was also a tenderness in his tone, something that made me realize how much these moments meant to him, to both of us.
“I get that,” I murmured, resting my head back on his shoulder. “It feels like we’re always moving, always on guard. It’s nice to just... be, for a while.”
Logan’s hand came up to gently stroke my hair, his touch sending a wave of calm through me. “You know, when I first came here, I didn’t think I’d ever find peace. I’ve been running for so long, I forgot what it was like to stop.”
I listened, sensing the depth of what he was sharing. It wasn’t easy for Logan to talk about his past, to open up about the pain he’d carried for years. But here he was, letting me in, and it made my heart ache with a mix of empathy and affection.
“You’ve found some peace here, though, haven’t you?” I asked softly.
He was quiet for a moment, then nodded. “Yeah, I think I have. Not just because of the school, but... because of you.”
His words made my breath catch, and I tightened my grip on his hand. “Me?”
“You make it easier, Indi. Easier to stop running, easier to believe that maybe, just maybe, there’s something good to hold onto.”
