I've been really enamoured by vintage paper moon portraits. They were a common photo oppurtunity you could find at fairs and carnivals for friends and couples, using a large cutout of a crescent moon as a set. Paper moon portraits were popular from the Victorian period up until the 1940s!
Because friends could also get photos taken I wonder how many queer couples in the past took this oppurtunity to commemorate a date at the amusement park with a paper moon postcard.
To answer your question, many! I’ve come across several paper moon portraits featuring queer couples over the years, many holding signs with the common slogan “not married, but willing to be”. Here are just a few:
love myself a cockroach of a character. i look at them and go ”how is that fucker not dead? they should be dead. they should be dead ten times over. how are they not?” and 90% of the time the answer is a combo of sheer stubborness and homosexuality
