A nurse carrying out a disability benefit assessment fired questions at a disabled man’s wife while her husband was in the middle of a severe and prolonged series of epileptic seizures.
Daniel Marshall, from Dorset, had only been able to answer a couple of questions from the Atos nurse before the stress of the personal independence payment (PIP) assessment caused the first of a series of seizures.
Shortly after they began, he started to experience a period of “grand mal” seizures, which caused violent convulsions and led the father-of-two to bite his tongue and begin to bleed from his mouth.
Despite these seizures, the nurse failed to provide any advice or help, according to Daniel’s wife, Sinitta.
After waiting for the grand mal seizures to finish and stepping outside to call her boss for instructions, the nurse came back inside and asked if she could continue with the assessment, warning Sinitta that otherwise her husband would not be awarded any PIP.
She continued to ask questions for up to half an hour, the Marshalls say, even though Sinitta told the nurse that she needed to change her husband’s clothes because he had wet himself.
The assessor was forced to pause a second time when Daniel had another series of grand mal seizures, but then carried on asking Sinitta questions.
Sinitta said: “I was crying my eyes out. I told her he would probably end up in hospital, which he did.
“I told her I had to change him because he had wet himself, but she just kept asking questions. I felt like I was being interrogated.
“She just kept asking how long it would last for and what it would be like after she left.”
After the assessment ended, Daniel had another eight grand mal seizures and was taken to hospital in an ambulance.
Despite the seriousness of the seizures, Daniel says that the nurse failed to mention in her assessment report that she had witnessed them taking place.
It’s just fucking off the scale how cruel this is. This person calls herself a nurse for one - fuck off. Nurses help people, they don’t stand by and do nothing while someone is suffering. Honestly these tory lackeys deserve all the grief they get. Fuck em.

I’m not female, British, or Muslim, so I could be way off the mark here, but I was discussing The Big Family Cooking Showdown and some of its Muslima representation and I think it’s so important for people all over the Anglosphere to take in what’s being shown by these families.
The Big Family Cooking Showdown became my latest guilty pleasure when I was randomly checking up on Sweetest Cookie Angel Human Nadiya Hussain from the Great British Baking Show. I *love* her so much and I like to keep up with her career, but I fell behind a bit and didn’t know she was hosting a family cooking show for BBC Two. I won’t give too much away about the show because, if you like that sort of pleasant British people in friendly competition thing, you should just watch it! Each episode pits two families against each other for three rounds of cooking with banter by Nadia a cohost and judging by two renowned chefs. Some of the families are ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! (the Gangotras) and some are just on this side of annoying (sorry Dawes family). If you like to cook, there are so many recipe ideas, and the show itself is just a pleasant haze of good spirited competition. Highly recommend a binge watch or two if that’s your cup of tea.
So what is the actual argument against a ‘final say’ vote on the terms of our exit from the European Union with an option to change course and stay in?
Because just shouting “democracy” isn’t an argument.
Claiming only one vote is ever allowed on a subject isn’t an argument. We vote on our own government every few years, our own local government every year, and even a referendum on our relationship with the EU was voted on in the 1970s so it’s not even like the 2016 referendum was the first and only vote about that subject.
From what I can tell the only reason people don’t want a finalising vote on the matter is because Brexiteers are afraid they’d lose it.
And when you’re trying to argue for the ‘sanctity of democracy’ by opposing the idea of a democratic vote just because you don’t want to lose it… you need to re-evaluate your understanding of democracy.
A final vote on such a crucial issue is not contempt for democracy, it is a true exercise in democracy.
And for the argument that “well if Remain won you wouldn’t want another vote” the obvious answer is that if Remain had won we wouldn’t be embarking on a massive change in our entire diplomatic and economic relationship with our largest neighbour in a way that’s creating headlines about the government needing to stockpile food and medicine.
During the EU referendum any talk of a ‘no deal’ scenario was virulently denied as even being remotely a possibility by the official Leave campaign and really anyone on the Leave side. Any claim that it could even theoretically happen was decried as slander, propaganda and ‘Project Fear.’
So now that it’s seeming so likely to go that way that there is open talk of the government having to stockpile food and medicine for when the ‘no deal’ scenario hits I have to ask the obvious question…
Is this still exactly what Brexiteers voted for when they ticked that box that offered no specifics on implementation at all? Like, did you all know that the exact opposite of what your official campaign said would happen would actually happen and totally wanted that all along?
Or is it just that this whole experiment of yours has gone utterly pear-shaped but you’re either too dumb, too prideful or too arrogant to admit that you fucked up royal?
