THE HOT FLAMES FINALLY begin to die down from AKIO’S body, and, once they’ve been put out, the quilava bounds up onto Kubo’s shoulder, where he maintains his unwavering watch. The disappearance of the gengar seems to have eased his tensions significantly.
“ I’M FROM ALOLA. ”Answers Kubo. “ Akio’s kind isn’t native to the islands, though, I got him as a gift from – ” He cuts off, when a vaguely familiar shape comes scampering up to the younger boy, and then up to him. Even in the darkness, the raggedy polyester cloth that obscured the shadow underneath was clearly recognizable. He kneels down to the little MIMIKYU and smiles. “ I’ve seen one of these before, they’re practically famous back home! ”
The dots were quickly connecting in his head. Maybe it was the opaque mask, or the fact that he’d only seen ghosts and ghouls around him, but … “ You’re a GHOST-TYPE TRAINER then? ”
“O---- oh, you really aren’t from here, hunh. Where did you say....? A-Alola....? That’s....the island one, right? Or----- a-all the little islands....?” Most Ghost-types slowly come to join around him as he speaks, the tips of his fingers pressing together as he talks. The last to come back is Andrew, floating down while holding a quite cracked teapot. Allister takes a look around at them, taking stock and making sure everyone is there before giving a nod and turning his attention back to the other boy.
“I-I’m actually a Gym Leader. One of them anyways---- o-of the town nearby: Stow-on-Side. I guess....that’s why I’m surprised to find you don’t recognize me....I don’t---- r-really know how it is in other regions, but Gym Leaders, and Challengers, and the Champion------ it’s all a big televised event, and we’re all kind of.....I-I guess the right word would be celebrities. It’s unfortunately not very often I don’t g-get recognized....” An arm stretches a bit to gesture at the cemetery and his Pokemon. “That’s why I come here sometimes, and why my Pokemon try to help keep people away from me----”
“That’s why--- I tried to get Andrew to scare you away.”
“Oh---!! I’m sorry about that, by the way. About---- a-about Andrew tryin’ to scare you. He told me he was trying to tell your friend there what was going on-- A-Akio....?-- but I guess they both were too caught up in the adrenaline of the battle.”

Sharp claws, cloaked in silvery light, latch onto the GHOST-TYPE’S foot and grip it for as long as possible, with AKIO fighting to apply more than just damage by simply sinking his claws in. Ultimately his success proves brief, as its only a few seconds later before a sharp whistle prompts the GENGAR to retreat back into the ground, and Akio, not at all transparent, simply hits the terrain and rolls a few feet behind his trainer.
Kubo whirls around, and, to his not so subtle surprise, sees a child younger than him from the brush’s edge. The darkness of the night and the added shade of the trees had kept his figure well hidden – and, having been distracted by the gengar up until this point, the teen had only just noticed him.
The boy simply GAWKS for a few moments while he tries to register everything. He was still in battle mode so he was very much stunned. “ Oh – ” The gengar WASN’T wild like he thought? It’s a good thing Kubo doesn’t actively try to capture pokemon – something that was often against his own ideals. It would be awkward to have made an attempt only to discover it was already owned. “ He’s YOURS? ”
Unfortunately his quilava isn’t easily convinced. He’s back on his feet again and frankly a bit tense. Kubo hears the fire-type growl lowly and quickly addresses him. “ AKIO, settle … ” Kubo soothes. Brow quirking with intrigue and suspicion, he then faces the boy again. “ A ghost pokemon woke us up at our camp not far from here. Maybe that’s what I get for setting up outside of a cemetery, but we were going to investigate when your GENGAR spooked us. ” Then, Kubo’s brow furrows to join the other. “ It’s a nice try but we’ve been scared by bigger things than that … he doesn’t tend to wander very far, does he? ”
Allister can’t help but stare at the Quilava a bit-- Akio, the other called him?-- having never seen one before. He’s sure Kabu probably knew what they were, and Allister wondered if he could maybe ask him. The idea of talking to the other Gym Leaders made him a bit nervous though, but he supposed if he was a Gym Leader too, he should be communicating with them more often. He shakes the thought off, trying to get his mind back on track.
“A Ghost-type startled you awake, hunh....?” He gives a soft hum, as if thinking for a bit. “Some of the Ghost Pokemon here won’t take too kindly to humans they won’t recognize, a-and they probably had the same goal as Andrew--- s-scaring you away.” The Gengar says something to Allister, the boy giving a shake of his head and a shrug before suggesting he goes and finds ‘everyone else.’ Andrew nodded before diving back into the shadows, and Allister returns his attention to the other boy.
“Um, y-you’re not--- from Galar, are you....? I’ve never seen a Pokemon like the one you have there....” His train of though is cut off as a Mimikyu comes running-- scampering?-- up to Allister, jumping into the boy’s arms with a happy cry and immediately starting to chatter away. Allister’s glad she’s small and light, though he’s talking a little too fast for him. He’s not going to try to stop her though--- he’s sure she’ll get distracted by something soon enough. And she does--- by the other boy, hopping out of Allister’s arms to scamper over to him and stare up at him.
“S-sorry---- That’s Anna; she’s another one of my Pokemon....”

FWOOSH !!
AND YET, the flame hits nothing. The GENGAR had slipped out of reach a mere second before the spiraling flames would have hit something, leaving AKIO briefly puzzled and FRUSTRATED when he ceases breathing out those hot plumes. Kubo had already guessed what happened, leaving him mentally facepalming.
Dammit – STAR probably had the best advantage over ghost-types, but bringing in a big, bright SOLGALEO would no doubt cause some destruction of property, and maybe turn some heads. and KOLOHE – well, Kolohe wasn’t ready. That dragapult would bite him before anyone else.
And sadly, as he’s mulling over this briefly, the GENGAR pops out again, directly in front of him. Kubo should really have anticipated another surprise, but it was so close that they were practically a hair away from each other’s faces. Having his entire vision overcome with PURPLE was very jarring to him. “ AAGH! ”
The trainer falls backwards on his rump, while trying to scramble further back. The yelp immediately indicates to his quilava just where the gengar is, and without as much as a second thought, Akio turns on his back feet and LAUNCHES for the opponent, his claws shimmering and ready with FURY CUTTER.
Andrew forgets in his surprise and distress that he can, in fact, just pop back into the shadows, instead launching himself above the Fire-type---- though not without the attack catching his foot. The Gengar’s arms flap as he floats in the air, as if that’s what was keeping him up. “Hey, hey, listen----” He’s cut off from trying to talk to the Quilava by a whistle, immediately snapping around to the direction it came from and diving into the shadows, popping back up behind Allister.
“I’m sorry----” He hadn’t meant for a battle to break out. Usually, Andrew has no problems in scaring people off, be he guessed not everyone would be frightened the same. The Gengar says something to him, and Allister reaches out a hand to give him a pat. “I didn’t think...th-that you would try to battle him.” He shifts on his feet a bit, a bundle of nerves and anxiety----- the usual. After a moment, he places a hand on his chest, fingers just barely peeking out from the large sleeve.
“M-my name is Allister.” He then gestures to the Gengar. “And this is my pal, Andrew. He noticed you guys in the cemetery, and, well, I come here to be alone sometimes, b-but---” Allister’s fingertips press together. “He noticed you guys getting too close to where I was, and so, he was trying to scare you guys away from me.”

“...”
“Woah, you from another region, ain’cha?” Andrew has his signature wide grin, halfway peeking up from the boy’s own shadow.
...
The small Ghost-type looks up at Nessa, silent for a few moments. It’s a bit before he speaks, his voice blunt. "Allister looks up to you. Thinks it’s cool how well you handle your fame. He wishes he could do the same.”
send me a “...” and one of my muse’s pokemon will talk to you.
Specify a question or subject or even the pokemon for bonus points.
Allister kind of wants to be lifted up by more people now. It was nice, he admits. It made him feel more child like.
@polterkid asked . He’s not gonna run at him, but he is going to slightly hold his arms up, wanting to be picked up.
oh? this was certainly a change of pace, a nice, calmer one. he smiles, hands placing themselves under the younger’s arms, lifting allister and placing him on his hip for support, one hand placed against in between his shoulder blades and the other being used to support the lower half.
‘ this is what you wanted, yes? ’
He knows the small, soft smile is unseen under his mask as he gives a nod, hands lightly grasping Kabu’s shirt. He wasn’t usually one for being touched, but it didn’t hurt to let himself be held every now and then, and he guessed it was the other’s affinity for Fire types that gave Allister a sense of warmth in the hold.
“Th-thank you.” Couldn’t forget his manners now.
[ i'm still at work but i'm probs not really gonna sleep tonight so feel free to send me hc asks to answer !! ]
yea dude I drink a lot. Drink at parties all the time. yea you heard right, 9 capri suns. 9. in 45 minuets.
What does your muse think of big cities? Would they enjoy living in one? If they designed a city, what kind of things would they focus on (ie parks, schools, a foodie district)?
[ allister doesn’t really like bigger cities. He was born and raised in stow-on-side, which is a pretty small place, and he prefers it that way. he knows everyone and everyone has known him since he was a literal baby, and he likes that. he feels more comfortable in that b/c none of them are strangers, and they know allister. they know he’s a kid and they know he’s a capable trainer, and he likes that. they’re willing to help allister out if need be, without judging him on the things he can’t do, and they’re used to how, uh, eccentric he can be
as for designing a city---- hm. i feel like with how allister is, there’s two things he would focus on. parks, and the city’s cemetary. he think it’d be nice to have a good sized, well kept place for families to go and kids to play and run around, but also a place where the dead are well honored and the ghosts and roam freely. ]
