What is your opinion on uhhhhh
Monster hunter stories (the first one) being ported to the switch?
Or just your opinion on stories 1-2 in general?
First I'm SO sorry for answering so late, brain is a siv with the release of Wilds. Only two of us mods have played the Stories series (as far as I'm aware) Modzutsune and I (Modlagi) - to which I've played both the original Stories and Stories 2, and am slowly replaying Stories on the switch!
To limit my unhinged rambling on the blog, I really enjoyed Stories as a whole, it's a lot goofier in the first game, and the power of friendship is the thing of the games so it can get a lil hammered in. But I thouroughly had a fun time playing the games and would enjoy a third Stories just to have more lil monster friends! The port so far has been really good, its still just the 3DS game but the voice acting from 2 and Port have been very good (if Reverto's is still a lil jarring from the deep one of the 3DS version. Still love our bug terified probably high hunter lad <3). One thing I do really like of the Stories games is sticking to the stylisation of the old world, the new world graphics are gorgeous don’t get me wrong but, there’s something just neat about utilising more limited palettes and models to really make monsters pop!
I want the buddy system of 2 to stay if there’s a 3 because replaying 1 has felt a lot lonelier in terms of npcs because of it (and Reverto hits and tanks well and I miss that when a Kirin slaughters me with its 3 hit bs-)
Uh, here’s also a “just barely off the damage cap” screenshot too of when I got a Thunderlord Zinogre from half health - Modlagi ⚡
hello hello! Modzutsune here, completely forgot about this for a solid while alongside energy explosions leaving me exhausted, i've only played Stories 2 and i haven't really completed it so take that as you will
its a neat game, i haven't really bothered to finish it because at some point the battle system just. stopped appealing to me i guess? maybe it's because i miss the funny little clashes because i started taking fuck amount of damage everytime i did. it was kind of fun trying to guess what attack types monsters fell into from my own personal knowledge
i did however, get somewhat bored of it all after hitting... maybe the volcano area? something of that sort. just didn't have the same spark as when i first started. it's not a bad game per se, the story is. notorious for what it is, even if it has its small funny moments. and i did enjoy the gameplay a lot- but i don't really know if i'll ever finish it as of writing?
it hits the same vibe as a mainline Pokemon game in that aspect. the gameplay i mean. and as such whatever mysterious reason i have for never being able to replay a mainline, that also applies here as well.
overall, very nice concept- and fun enough execution. stylistically extremely charming, but ultimately something im on the fence about - Modzutsune 🫧
