I’m in France on vacation right now but I wanna talk about these comics. I mean, Bill is kind of right. STAY WITH ME.
Max has taken out her anger over her marriage on Bill. It’s not like he doesn’t deserve it, but her comment about him not having changed since he was 18 — that’s more directed at Pete than anything else. Bill is like a symbol of everything that’s ever gone wrong in her life.
When the club broke up, Max and Bill got into a big fight that Max ended up losing. At the end of it all, Bill cursed her out, shitting on her relationship with Pete and telling her that they’re “not gonna last anyways”.
Pete and Max only got married because they were too drunk to think straight and one of them said “we should prove Bill wrong, that fucking smartass.”
They elope, with only Jerry as their witness. They dont tell anyone but Lou. Bill doesn’t find out they were married until they meet up at the convention center. And he quickly finds out it’s not going well. It’s an understatement to say he rubs it in their face. Especially to Max.
Since Pete got his new job, Max has been considering divorce. And rightfully so. I plan on making an entire post just about that, so I won’t go into much detail here. All you need to know is that their marriage is failing and it’s mostly to do with Pete’s job, but not entirely.
Here’s the thing, though. Pete loves Max. He does, even if he’s a jerk about it. And he’d stay with her even if they weren’t married. In his mind, they were just … together. There wasn’t a future without her, but this whole marriage shit is weird and difficult and he doesn’t like it. Neither does she. But once again, Bill’s right: Pete would rather kill himself than experience a life without her.
Max loves Pete, obviously, but she’s not so good at it (Neither of them are).
But after yet another fight with Bill, the divorce papers on the counter at home seem more daunting than they used to be. Max doesn’t want to sign them anymore, as stupid as that sounds.
Pete never wanted to sign them to begin with.
And just like last time, they opt to stay together just to prove Bill wrong. But unlike last time, they’re a little older, a little more mature, and definitely a little more sober. They’re actually willing to try this go around.
(Also, if Yall have any questions about Max … feel free to hmu in the comments ..)
