Something I heard on a podcast today:

When you recover from panic attacks, you don’t go back into a culture that says “have panic attacks again”.

But when you recover from an eating disorder, you’re thrown into a society of people primarily encouraging disordered eating/exercise mentalities and diet culture.

how much you ate today

how much you weight

if you gained weight

if you feel like you don’t deserve it

if you feel like you’re not allowed

Don’t get into the dieting cycle again. It is not worth it and you know it.

when will people learn that their fatphobia and demonization of food directly helps enforce disordered eating? if you care about people with eating disorders you have to care about ending the hatred of fat people and the moralizing of food. end of story

I don’t think enough people talk about the social hierarchy of eating disorders.

So, this is simply a reminder that Bulimia is NOT “failed anorexia.” Binge-Eating Disorder is NOT laziness and voluntary lack of self control. OSFED is NOT any less valid that anorexia. And, Anorexia is NOT cute or desirable.

These are all horrible and deadly disorders, and there is no way to “fail” at having a mental illness. We are all suffering is different ways and that is always valid and deserving of help.
