As you reflect on life thus far, what has someone said, written or expressed in some fashion that is especially meaningful to you and why?
As I read the question, some of my mother's words come to my head: “don’t assume”. It is funny because, most of the times, I used the I-did-not-know-so-I-guessed excuse to get away from every consequence I had not thought about. For example, if I had to pay school today but I did not, getting a $5 late fee for that, I would say something like “I assumed that it was paid until next week”, thinking, in my childish wisdom, that I would not get scolded. What was her response? She knew I had not forgotten. I had just been too lazy to ask. Situations like that used to happen on a daily basis, and she would always say the same thing. In the end, I learned to talk about the things I ignored.
It was until later that I discovered the real value of those words in the words of another person. “Why guess when you can know?” is one of my former English teacher’s mottos, referring to the analysis of statistics. But the truth hidden in that phrase cannot be applied to a single aspect of life, and, as my mother’s saying, it has echoed in my head even since that day. I now take the time to talk about my problems instead of just assuming that things are fine. Once, I realized that this practice probably saved one of my most cherished relationships. Between tears, I dared to ask this person what in the world had happened, and, when everything was clear, he thanked me for having the courage to fix what was to become an experience that would alter things in the future.
One of the biggest mistakes I believe all humans make is that we forgot others cannot read what is on our mind. Sometimes, big problems happen just because we think words are not necessary; they should already know. But the truth is simple: that never works. Thousands of spouses are separated because they “assumed” each other’s problems. There is a big amount of children who feel having no memories of their parents telling them “I love you”, because these last ones think it is clear enough (hey kid, I gave you everything!). The importance of words is really big, and their transcendence is even larger. Therefore, we should all take the time to say those things we believe are obvious. They are probably only obvious for us.
When memories mix with history
Some time ago I went to see a play titled “¡Ay, Carmela!” It is a historical drama set in Spain at the time of the civil war. In the acts, there was a constant exchange between moments of laughter and seriousness, making the plot extremely interesting yet very difficult to understand. However, as it progressed, certain details were revealed that made everything have sense.
All the play was a very well-organized critique about the ridiculousness that led such war, but showed in a way that each one of us, the public, could draw our own conclusions. It represented such complex topics as love, death and human satire that it was impossible to explain them with words, but the message was clear: there are some actions that transcend time and space whose consequences we are going to live forever.
The presentation was great. Three changes of cloth, two very talented actors and a single scenography were all it took to create a marvelous piece of art. No one else than Paulino and Carmela existed in that universe, and was more than perfect that way. I greatly admire theater artists. For a little less than two hours their role becomes their present, past and future. They make the rest of us feel like we are part of the play because they represent ourselves. Needless to say, I fell in love with the actress –Rosario Ríos– of course, artistically speaking. Her grace makes her unique, special, big. At the end, I feel very happy to have seen such a beautiful play and I will see it again every time I have the chance.
Pd. I recently started having theater classes two times a week and guess who my new instructor is. (hint: it's a she!!!!!). I think I have a new best friend, is just that she doesn’t know it yet.

This makes me weepy every time I see it. MONSTER DUDE LOVES HER SO MUCH!!
Fuck! I have been searching the world over for this again! I am saving it so I never lose it again.

As a essay enthusiast, I've always enjoyed the opportunity to express myself through words and, I admit it, I take every page I write very seriously. However, I never thought someone could actually pay me for writing a 350-lines text. Apparently it is possible.I just discovered a website called Textbroker.com that allows me to choose among thousands of projects so I can do what I love AND get some cash from it. I think I just found my new hobbie/challenge/summer job.

Eren has a gamer's soul.
This is a photoset of life-like digital paintings of some of the Shingeki no Kyojin cast made by the brilliant trixdraws. (S)he’s currently selling prints of these paintings here. Trix’s stuff is incredible and I highly recommend checking out the other stuff on both websites. (S)he has his/her own amazing original art and also does commissions!
As many unbreakable bonds as there are in SNK, I’m going to argue that Eren and Levi have the strongest relationship in the whole series. And here’s why. #1: Levi has shown fear of Eren
