“This is why I hate white people.”
I’ve searched through my posts to find it, but it’s too far buried. I’ve looked through my messages, but I that’s gone too.
This has bothered me for a LONG time. And I’m gonna shout it into the void, and people are gonna get mad, and I’m not gonna care anymore.
When I first started learningwitchcraft, I was told about closed cultures. I made a post asking what they were, and what differentiated them from open cultures.
My first response? “This is why I hate white people.”
For asking a question? About YOUR culture? How am I supposed to learn unless I ask? “Google it,” people will type. Yeah, I did, and I also wanted to ask the community for their take. I was a new witch, unfamiliar with terms I was trying to grasp.
I remember chatting with the person who said it, and I apologized for my unknown offense. They forgave me, so that should’ve been the end of it. But it STILL bothers me, to this day.
If you’re a part of a culture, I don’t expect you to stop everything and teach me. That’s a ridiculous request, and exhausting for the person. It’s not a person’s JOB to educate people about their culture.
But if someone reaches out for help— someone IGNORANT, like I was— why the fuck are you punishing them? I said nothing harmful. I asked for help, and was greeted with hate.
I’ll be labeled whiny white bitch as soon as I post this, and I don’t care. I’ll write what’s been on my mind for years: I’m not sorry for asking a question. The person who responded is blinded by hate (which I understand, but I’m not taking your culture away by asking about it). Don’t scold or berate baby witches who are genuinely learning and want to understand where you’re coming from. And if someone asks a question you don’t wanna answer, just fucking ignore it.
