maia always had this nasty little habit of calling everyone by their full names, even when she knew ( for her own safety ) that they would rather not be. according to her mother, it was the polite way to go about it. what if a nickname was hurtful to them? wouldn’t that be worse? regardless, she knew damn well that mal wouldn’t want to be called by her given name. but she’d rather do the polite thing.

“ i never thought i would see you in wonderland. i am truly graced by your presence. ”

and she wasn’t lying. maia lifted her skirt lightly to bow before the lady mal. this young lady had constantly proved her worth to the people of auradon, and yet people still treated her like a criminal. her friends understood that all too well. everyone deserved another chance. she smiled widely, attempting to reinforce her genuineness.

“ we have heard the stories, and i would like to thank you for all you have done for auradon. the opinions of wonderland have certainly changed because of it. ”

he tries to bite back the smile in the slightest, reeling toward the innocent facade he could put on so well. he was a natural at it ; he mastered the art long ago. it helped that everyone was older than him. even if they didn’t recognize it, they seemed to dote on the young boy - it made it easier for him to get away with the things he did. his hands clasp together behind his back, feet pushing him upward in a distracting little bounce.

“ oh, i heard about that knight. apparently he said some pretty horrid things, must have gotten what was coming to him. it is the will of the world, so to speak. ”

it was practically a decree that it was done in retaliation. mordecai always had a reason for his pranks ; he didn’t blindly cause a havoc despite it appearing as such.

she raises an eyebrow upon hearing the words. this wasn’t the first time someone had spoken illy about the soldier. her mother had scolded him, of course, but the reports kept coming. the foolish knight was known throughout the court. maia couldn’t fathom what on earth he had said to mordecai that would validate one of his pranks. she knew she’d have a LOVELY conversation with him after this.

“ oh really? well i suppose he won’t say those things again, considering he’s gotten punished. thank you for...” she smiled softly at the younger boy. “...informing me. the world has a funny way of working, doesn’t it? some people get the walk of shame in their underpants, while some get to laugh at them. i often wonder where i fall. ”

if you asked her she’d much rather walk around in her bra and underwear.

His relations on the Isle were really none of anyone else’s business, but he did let some fun times slip in conversation. Enough to make someone interested enough. He watched her drink from the spiked cup and felt that much more intrigued on what might fit her fancy when it came to illegal substances.

“That’s nice. I don’t do sexualities. I never fit in a category. I play for all teams, whoever sounds nice at the moment really. Life’s too short, isn’t it? Besides, I don’t care whether or not you think I’m attractive. I didn’t ask.” Another shit eating grin followed by a dark chuckle. “Here’s the skinny, sweetheart. I’m bored. The Isle is fun, this isn’t. Make my wildest dreams come true, PLEASE. I’m dying around here.”

she wished she could lie and disagree with the rude comment about her cousin, but lying was against her vows. those ideals passed down from her mother proved to be quite inconvenient at times. occasionally they’d prevent her own train of thought or cause moral conflict. but her vows kept her sane and she was grateful for them.

“ with all do respect, i didn’t ask for your opinions on sexuality either. ” maia’s disgust grew with each word he had spoken to her. she knew she could not voice these opinions for they were cruel and unnecessary. “ i’m not interested in any dream of yours. ” the princess smiled with such a genuine grace. it was almost impossible to see how much she LOATHED this conversation. “ people like you threaten the safety of my friends and family. they deserve better and i refuse to enable such behavior. ”
